Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
- Rusev vs. Big Show
- Sheamus vs. The Miz (United States Championship)
- Brie Bella vs. Nikki Bella (Loser becomes the winner's personal assistant)
While the two Hell in a Cell matches will be what goes up on the marquee, the undercard has promise. These contests provide stages for Damien "Mizdow" and Rusev to create memories by way of slapstick or stiff kicks.
As for the feuding Bella sisters, it's hard to get too excited.
Brie Bella vs. Nikki Bella
WWE has been building toward this collision for months. That's the saving grace for this match.
It will have more history and hype going into it than most Divas matches. Fans have watched Nikki and Brie's reconciliation devolve into a catfight, Nikki reveal what it was like to have Brie as a sister growing up and Jerry Springer end up on a stretcher thanks to this feud.
The acting during this buildup has been atrocious and the wrestling is likely to follow suit. The amount of time WWE has invested into it, though, will give it a big-fight feel.
The issue is that Nikki and Brie will struggle to build on that once the bell rings. Both women have improved over the years as in-ring performers, but that's like saying a team's worst player is now its second-worst player.
Her match against Stephanie McMahon at SummerSlam was the best we've seen from Brie, but no one will confuse it for Charlotte vs. Natalya from NXT Takeover. The bout earned just 2.5 stars from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t ProFightDB.com).
This time around, Brie won't be working with such a talented storyteller. Neither of the two Bellas has proved that they can thrive in a longer, more high-profile match.
They'll get a chance to change that perception at Hell in a Cell, but it's not wise to put money on that happening.
Sheamus vs. The Miz
This feud doesn't have much of a spark yet. The majority of highlights so far have come from Damien Sandow. His stunt-double shtick is what has been worth watching, not the in-ring action.
There's a reason fans have been chanting his name rather than Miz or Sheamus—he's been brilliant mirroring Miz's every move.
A part of the interest in Sheamus vs. The Miz being so mild comes from them not having great chemistry. They don't have the same kind of electricity together that The Miz had with Dolph Ziggler or that Sheamus had with Cesaro.
Sheamus works best with brawlers. That's why his best work has been opposite Big Show, Bad News Barrett and The King of Swing. The Miz seems at his peak when facing faster, more athletic opponents.
If the U.S. champ and his latest challenger's recent battles are any indication, we're in for a solid contest, but nothing especially memorable.
The fact that The Miz has jumped from the Intercontinental Championship chase to going after the U.S. title takes away some of the anticipation as well. The thought of him winning Sheamus' belt isn't enticing and with as little as The Celtic Warrior has defended it, the same goes for him retaining.
The Miz put on an impressive performance at SummerSlam. Sheamus rocked it at Night of Champions.
There are big question marks about whether they can do that as each other's opponents. There is no question, however, that Sandow will be a hypnotizing presence at ringside.
That itself should make this a fun match, even if it's no classic.
Rusev vs. Big Show
The undercard match with the highest ceiling is this collision of behemoths.
In each of their battles, Big Show has looked invigorated, more compelling than he's been in recent memory. Something about a hard-hitting brawl with a powerhouse brings out his best. Fans saw that most recently on Monday's Raw when The Bulgarian Brute looked to have the big man beat.
While The Miz has already pinned Sheamus and Brie has done the same to Nikki, Rusev and Big Show's bouts have yet to reach a definitive conclusion.
That elevates the anticipation going into this one. A climax awaits. Either The World's Largest Athlete becomes the first man to pin Rusev or he becomes the latest victim on the Russian hero's resume.
WWE has done well to build up Rusev as an unstoppable force. It then booked Big Show to be the first foe to manhandle him.
That creates enough doubt about this matchup to make it mighty interesting.
Look for bruise-inducing blows that echo. Look for a slobberknocker that is one of Hell in a Cell's best offerings.
