Analyzing Most Likely Scenarios for Dean Ambrose and John Cena at Hell in a Cell
Once scheduled to lock horns at Hell in a Cell, Dean Ambrose and John Cena are now set to embark on separate journeys at the event.
Thanks to his snatching a contract from a pole on Monday's Raw, Ambrose can now focus on Seth Rollins. Meanwhile, Cena is headed for yet another collision with Randy Orton.
In those two matches, the chances of meddling hands and altered outcomes are high. The Authority has been a constant presence in both Cena and Ambrose's lives of late. Chances are both babyfaces will have additional enemies trying to make their way inside the Hell in a Cell.
The creation of an instant classic, a true climax and a character shift for Orton are among the other most likely scenarios come October 26.
John Cena Benefits from Randy Orton Face Turn
1 of 5Randy Orton has to be tired of being a lowly henchman.
Only a few months ago he was the WWE champ, and now he's taking orders from Seth Rollins, having mustard squirted into his face and being relegated to taking on the loser of the No Holds Barred Contract on a Pole match.
Combine those maddening items with the company's lack of top babyfaces, and The Viper turning on The Authority feels like a safe bet.
Tension increased between Rollins and Orton on Monday's Raw, with each man looking to outdo the other with post-match attacks on his opponent.
By the time Cena and Orton square off, The Apex Predator could be a moment away from switching teams. Should The Authority look to assist him, Orton may buck in resistance. Wanting to win by himself, he could become distracted by shooing Rollins and company away or else by nailing his comrades with a series of RKOs.
Either scenario allows Cena to be the beneficiary, pouncing on Orton in the midst of all that chaos.
The Authority Interferes with Dean Ambrose's Quest for Revenge
2 of 5Don't rule out WWE overbooking Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose. What was once a straightforward story of revenge has become a muddled narrative involving John Cena and The Authority.
The company may choose to protect Rollins here, keeping him strong for his eventual Money in the Bank cash-in. That could mean that Kane, Triple H and even Jamie Noble and Joey Mercury could be involved, costing Ambrose a win and the fans a chance at the story's optimal ending.
The reasoning behind that possibility also has to do with where Ambrose is heading next. Should The Authority thwart him at this most critical moment, it will carve out a path toward a Triple H-Ambrose feud.
It seemed as if Roman Reigns was headed for that showdown, but hernia surgery has those plans on hold. Ambrose makes more than a suitable replacement, so a rivalry with Triple H is a logical, compelling next step for him.
Seth Rollins Ruins John Cena's Chances to Win Agan
3 of 5Even though John Cena is heading into the Hell in a Cell with Randy Orton, his feud with Seth Rollins may not be over.
Dean Ambrose is getting his crack at paying Rollins back. Cena may be getting his later in the year.
All the aggression Cena had toward Rollins for his actions at Night of Champions could lead to their feuding in earnest. If WWE wants that situation to unfold, it has an easy method to do so: having Rollins assist Orton at Hell in a Cell by Curb Stomping Cena into the mat.
That would give the unappealing Orton-Cena match a welcome surprise and line up what both Cena and Rollins will be up to for the rest of the year.
Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins' Feud Ends in Definitive Fashion
4 of 5Where else can the feud between Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins go?
After months of brawls and sneak attacks, a chaotic Lumberjack match and a Falls Count Anywhere that ended with Ambrose on a stretcher, this rivalry is on the cusp of its climax. Rollins has continually slipped from Ambrose's grip, refusing him the full satisfaction of tasting revenge.
The Hell in a Cell structure is designed to offer no escape. It promises a conclusion for this story.
WWE may try to overthink things here, but the most effective route is the straight line. Having Ambrose defeat Rollins after a hard-fought match will reward fans for going on this narrative journey together. The hero's vengeance for both himself and Roman Reigns is a cathartic experience waiting to happen.
John Cena vs. Randy Orton needs shenanigans to spice it up. Ambrose and Rollins need only a stage on which to complete their drama.
Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins Becomes Best Hell in a Cell Match in Years
5 of 5Everything is setting up for greatness inside the steel.
So often rivalries are not nearly ready to be moved inside the Hell in a Cell when that pay-per-view comes around. That's what makes the Cena-Orton showdown so unappetizing. Rollins and Ambrose, on the other hand, have been building toward this collision for months.
Their story is one of bad blood rising and comrades becoming archenemies.
Fans haven't been overexposed to their battles, either. Ambrose has endeavored to get his hands around Rollins' throat but hasn't yet had a good chance to do so.
That's where Hell in a Cell comes in. The structure will house one of the more intense rivalries in recent memory with what should be uninterrupted action. It is the arena where two young gladiators will look to prove themselves in the biggest match of each man's career to date.
On top of that, their chemistry together has been fantastic. Their Lumberjack match at SummerSlam was the best version of that gimmick ever. They followed that up with a Falls Count Anywhere bout that is the front-runner for 2014's best match.
That all adds up to a viable shot at surpassing the recent slew of Hell in a Cell matches. A lack of intensity, hurried narratives and disappointing performances have led to recent stinkers like CM Punk vs. Paul Heyman and Ryback.
This match won't be a flop like that. Each time they've been in the ring together, Ambrose and Rollins have exceeded expectations.
That makes it easy to believe that they will do so again at Hell in a Cell.
