WWE 2K15: Detailing MyCareer Mode and Other Notable Improvements
After revolutionizing the sports video game landscape with the NBA 2K series, 2K Sports is at it again with WWE 2K15, which features several enhancements that made the ultra-realistic basketball simulation the cream of the crop over the past few console generations.
For the first time in the annual WWE video game, 2K Sports has inserted its renowned MyCareer mode, fully equipped with a robust character creation tool, to allow players to insert themselves into the unpredictable world of professional wrestling.
That is the highlight, of course, but there are other things such as reliving historical moments that deserve mention, too. Let's take a look at some of the notable recent reveals.

2K Showcase Matches

Fans have been well aware for quite some time that John Cena and CM Punk have been a major part of the game's 2K Showcase matches.
Not only is that recent epic rivalry fully represented in digital form, the historic feud between friends Triple H and Shawn Michaels is the other highlight.
Now, these matches are near and dear to fans, so hearing from Paul Jordan of PWInsider.com that epics such as Cena vs. Punk from Money in the Bank 2011 are included is sure to get folks excited. Heck, even the ill-fated Kevin Nash-Punk cell phone angle will be fun to revisit, in a way.
As Vincent Ingenito of IGN.com notes, fans will be rewarded for their knowledge through objectives over the course of the 33 matches:
"The two rivalries will be explored at near documentary-level detail across 33 matches, with tons of video packages and archival footage providing context. Much like last year's 30 Years of Wrestlemania, each match will feature historic objectives, rewarding you for your knowledge of, and your ability to replicate the key beats of the real-life matches.
"
Given the smash hit that was 30 Years of Wrestlemania a year ago, the laundry list of 2K Showcase matches, with game play and graphics boosts to boot, are reason enough for fans to invest in this year's edition of the series.
MyCareer
While the dramatic, sometimes strangely voiced cut scenes in MyCareer mode in the NBA 2K series seem out of place at times for a basketball game, they are sure to fit right in with the wild world of the WWE.
In this year's offering, 2K Sports is allowing fans to implement themselves into the game thanks to a character creation tool that lets them edit seemingly everything, right on down to the shape of the cheekbones.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com passed along a press release from 2K Sports that is extensive in its explanation of the new game mode.
In short, fans can create whatever type of wrestler they want and start from humble beginnings at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, while getting coached by Bill DeMott and busting their chops at NXT.
From there, players move up to the big time and develop rivalries, stats and the like in a robust system that sounds wildly similar to the popular role-playing games out there, meaning few players will experience the exact same thing with their Superstars.
It sounds as if things can get out of a player's control at some points if they choose to go down the wrong path, but in the unpredictable WWE, that is not always a bad thing. Dolph Ziggler has not exactly taken an ideal path over the past couple of years, but overwhelming popularity has seen him back to the top. Surely this will work for created characters in the realistic game, too.
Career Invasion

One aspect of WWE 2K15 that has yet to receive a ton of attention is a creative twist to the single-player experience that allows players to compete with friends—at random.
Bleacher Report's Brian Mazique recently detailed Career Invasion, which in its simplest form, is 2K Sports understanding that now, more than ever, video game fans love co-op experiences with friends. Take Destiny, for example.
This wrinkle allows a player to fire up MyCareer mode and import five of their friends' created Superstars. Those created wrestlers will show up in storylines at random, whether it be as friend or foe.
Surprise is arguably the biggest element of sports entertainment. Hence the popularity of the Royal Rumble and all of the jaw-dropping returns. Or the return of The Rock Monday on Raw, etc.
Having a friend's created wrestler intervene at one point or another not only keeps the career mode fresh and expands on an already impressive roster, it capitalizes on the element of surprise as players can never know what will happen next.
That's a major win for wrestling simulators, folks.
