WWE Raw Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from October 6

Erik BeastonOct 7, 2014

The road to Hell in a Cell 2014 rolled through Brooklyn's Barclays Center as World Wrestling Entertainment presented Monday Night Raw. While the majority of the show felt very stale (if not a retread of the previous week's show), there was one major surprise that had the wrestling world buzzing and Twitter on fire.

The Rock made a shocking, unexpected return to Raw, confronting pro-Russia Rusev and Lana and laying the verbal smackdown on the devious duo. He electrified the audience, as only he could, then returned to the wonderful world of Hollywood.

Dean Ambrose dealt out a New York City-style beatdown, complete with hot dog cart and all, while The Miz scored a tainted victory over Sheamus to firmly establish himself as the top contender to the Celtic Warrior's United States Championship.

Poor Emma was abandoned by partner AJ Lee, left to endure the Ram-Paige at the hands of her former NXT rival, while Brie Bella overcame seemingly overwhelming odds to score another victory.

With this week's broadcast in the history books and all eyes on the impending showdown between Dean Ambrose and John Cena at Hell in a Cell, here is a look back at the winners and losers from Monday night's show.

Winner: Rusev and Lana

Did The Bulgarian Brute and Lana get verbally smacked down by the returning Rock during Monday's show? Yes, but one cannot deny the effect that sharing the ring with an all-time great, an iconic figure in both the pro wrestling and acting worlds, has on two young performers just finding their feet as they climb up the ladder toward main event stardom.

Monday's segment is the kind that establishes Rusev and his Ravishing Russian mouthpiece as characters WWE holds in great esteem. Otherwise, WWE would have never thrown them out there to go toe-to-toe with wrestling's most electrifying star.

Sure, the insults were flowing, but at the same time, Rock was sure to put over both performers in the process. You simply cannot manufacture the sort of rub The Great One gave the young heels Monday night, making it that much more valuable.

Winner: Dean Ambrose

It seems like Ambrose has set up shop in the winner's section of this here article. Monday night, it was easy to see why.

The Lunatic Fringe has managed to get over despite being pushed to the background following the initial split of The Shield. Seth Rollins was immediately inserted into the main event scene as one of the top heels in the company, and Roman Reigns was positioned as the next big babyface star. Ambrose, however, built his fanbase through a connection he forged with the audience based on his unpredictable nature.

Monday night, that unpredictability reared its head once more as Ambrose seemingly abandoned his partner John Cena and hopped on the subway, prepared to spend the rest of the evening at Coney Island. Then, as Cena was faced with a three-on-one beatdown, Ambrose returned with a hot dog cart, doused Randy Orton and Kane in ketchup and mustard and pummeled Rollins.

To close out the show, The Authority's Triple H and Stephanie McMahon made their way to the stage and announced a match between Ambrose and Cena for Hell in a Cell, with the winner squaring off with Rollins inside the vaunted steel structure. Ambrose responded by leaving the leader of the Cenation unconscious following a double-arm DDT.

The key to Ambrose's success to this point has been the wild and chaotic nature of his character, but as far as his recent main event run is concerned, it has been WWE Creative's willingness to book him on the same level of Cena. The more that happens, the better off Ambrose will be.

Losers: Kane and Randy Orton

The Big Red Monster and The Viper are former WWE and world heavyweight champions. You would never know that, though, based on recent booking. Not only have they been treated like second-rate Superstars over the last two months, but they jobbed to ketchup and mustard Monday night.

That's right, two of the biggest stars of the last decade sold ketchup and mustard shots to the face while Seth Rollins was the centerpiece villain of the show-closing segment. They were his lackeys, sent to cut Ambrose off before he could get his hands on the former architect of The Shield.

It is a dramatic fall for the two Superstars, who are in desperate need of a refresher if anyone is to take them seriously.

Loser: Emma

The entertaining Aussie returned to WWE television this week but was not welcomed back with open arms either by her opponents, Paige and Alicia Fox, or Divas champion AJ Lee. At first, Emma stood by AJ's side, preventing a scenario where the champion would be forced to compete in a two-on-one handicap match.

Her reward? Abandonment by her partner and a vicious Ram-Paige from the former NXT women's and WWE Divas champion.

It would great to see Emma become a consistent part of WWE television, but unfortunately, it looks as though she is but a bit player in the larger AJ-Paige feud.

Winner: The Miz

After dropping the Intercontinental Championship to Dolph Ziggler just 24 hours after Night of Champions, The Miz and Damien Mizdow embarked on a losing streak that saw them drop several tag bouts to Ziggler and U.S. champion Sheamus. Monday night, Miz righted the ship, defeating Sheamus with the assistance of his stunt double, thus putting himself in contention for a shot at the once-prestigious title.

The Miz is undoubtedly benefiting from a lazy WWE Creative staff that could not come up with anything more interesting than swapping contenders to the U.S. and intercontinental titles. Whether he can capitalize on yet another opportunity and put in the work necessary to convince management to change course and run with him as the United States champion remains to be seen.

Winner: Brie Bella

The segment involving Jerry Springer not withstanding, WWE Creative has done a great job of building the Brie Bella vs. Nikki Bella sibling rivalry into one of the better stories in the company.

Monday night, Brie was again forced to face the same odds Nikki did while defending her sister's honor a few months back. Unlike her egocentric sibling, Brie proved not only capable but determined to stick it to her tormentor by defeating Summer Rae with one arm tied behind her back.

It is basic, simple storytelling that really positions Brie as a major babyface heading into the fall.
