WWE Hell in a Cell 2014: Feuds Most Deserving of Midcard Spot

Erik BeastonOct 6, 2014

On October 26, World Wrestling Entertainment will produce its annual pay-per-view event titled Hell in a Cell. Just days before Halloween, the top stars in the sport will battle inside the confines of the most devastating and dangerous structure in professional wrestling.

With just under three weeks until the show, however, not a single match has been announced to this point. If WWE television is any indicator, Superstars such as John Cena, Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and Randy Orton are sure to fill the top spots on the card, but the direction the company will take with its midcard is less clear.

Which feuds are most deserving of a spot on the show as support for the night's main events?

Let's take a look.

The Big Show vs. Rusev

On October 6, Show and Rusev will headline Monday Night Raw in a huge (in more ways than one) main event. While it appears as though WWE may waste its major midcard program on free television, fans should expect that match to merely serve as the latest chapter in the two Superstars' story, with the conclusion coming at Hell in a Cell, where they are likely to clash in a high-profile singles bout.

Rusev has made a name for himself by knocking off former heavyweight champions Jack Swagger and Mark Henry, and adding Big Show to that list would only enhance his sparkling resume. With Lana by his side, Rusev has succeeded where so many young talents to come out of NXT have struggled. He has strong booking on his side and has backed it up with performances that continue to get better each and every week.

Big Show thrives in matches with fellow big men, and a high-impact bout, one full of hard-hitting action and dramatic near-falls, could make for one of the more enjoyable (and surprising) bouts on the card.

Brie Bella vs. Nikki Bella

It could be argued that Brie vs. Nikki is a match that could be saved until Survivor Series, a show much more prestigious than Hell in a Cell. At the same time, the feud between the sisters has been raging on since SummerSlam, when Nikki betrayed her sister, and has featured some very good segments and some truly awful ones as the company puts the siblings at the forefront of the Divas division.

To this point, though, the feud has not really been able to eclipse the war between AJ and Paige over the Divas title because all fans have seen the sisters do is talk. Putting off a match between Brie and Nikki for another month could very well kill any remaining momentum the program has, which would be a huge mistake on WWE Creative's part.

Let them battle one another, even if it ends in disqualification or count-out. At the very least, it will give the feud that shot of adrenaline it needs if it is to continue on.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Cesaro

Since failing to defeat Sheamus for the United States title at Night of Champions, the Swiss Superman has focused his attention on the Intercontinental Championship, currently held by WWE's resident Showoff, Dolph Ziggler.

A recent episode of SmackDown saw Ziggler retain his title by pinning Cesaro, whose foot was underneath the bottom rope. It was a controversial conclusion to the bout, one that had some questioning whether or not Cesaro would have won the title had the referee not have botched the decision.

With the two stars continuing their interactions in the wake of that match, putting them together at Hell in a Cell would not only result in an amazing midcard bout but would help with the restoration of legitimacy and credibility to the once-prestigious title.

Sheamus vs. The Miz

As long as both men have been on the WWE roster, and as many times as they have fought one another, a match between Sheamus vs. The Miz still somehow manages to feel fresh. With both midcard champions seemingly switching opposition in the month of October, it seems fitting that the former top contender to the intercontinental title gets his chance to dethrone U.S. champion Sheamus at Hell in a Cell.

Why? Because WWE Creative, that's why.
