WWE SmackDown Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from October 3

Erik BeastonOct 4, 2014

The October 3 episode of SmackDown is in the books, and we are no closer to knowing the main event of the upcoming Hell in a Cell pay-per-view than we were at the end of Raw this past Monday night, leaving fans wondering when the headline bouts for that huge event may begin to formulate.

Dean Ambrose continued to make an impression on fans as he teamed with franchise player John Cena to square off against Randy Orton and Kane in the night's main event. Would the duo knock off The Authority's former heavyweight champions, or would Seth Rollins stick his nose in, costing his rivals the match?

AJ Lee looked to gain a measure of revenge on Paige and Alicia Fox, who left her lying Monday night on Raw. She did, pummeling Fox but narrowly missing getting her hands on the former Divas champion.

Big Show and Rusev met face-to-face, just days after the World's Largest Athlete disgraced the Russian flag. The Bulgarian Brute and his Ravishing Russian manager were sure to have something to say about the display by the giant. What was it, and how did Big Show respond?

Overall, Friday night's broadcast was one of the most worthless in recent history. Nothing happened, no storylines advanced and many were left wondering why they even bothered wasting their Friday night to watch the show.

Still, that does not mean there weren't definitive winners and losers coming out of the broadcast. Some had reason to hold their head high, while others could use some rehabilitation from WWE Creative by the time Monday's Raw rolls around. Who are they?

Take a look for yourself.

Winner: Dean Ambrose

The more the Lunatic Fringe is in the mix with WWE's top stars, the more likely fans are to continue treating him as such.

Friday night, he partnered with the most over babyface in the entire sport to face two future Hall of Famers, then had his match interrupted by one of the most despised villains in the entire sport, former Shield teammate Seth Rollins.

Any time that scenario plays out, and fans have even more reason to cheer for the surging young star, it will only serve to benefit him and eventually solidify him as a top star of the future.

With Roman Reigns out due to injury, Ambrose has picked up the ball left behind by the juggernaut and carried it admirably, developing into the antihero that fans consider so cool, hip and edgy.

Losers: The Fans

Not only did SmackDown feel like a colossal waste of time, there was a segment midway through the show that only made it that much worse.

The recent development of a feud between the Bunny and Hornswoggle is exactly the sort of thing that makes fans ashamed to be associated with pro wrestling. Sure, it may make the children in the crowd happy (maybe), but it alienates the rest of the audience, who feel like their intelligence is being insulted.

Friday night, the ridiculously stupid program continued, and it is sure to continue into Raw. As long as WWE doesn't mind its fans switching over to Monday Night Football to avoid the stupidity, they will continue to book such nonsense.

Winner: AJ Lee

The Divas champion roared back from a beating suffered Monday night, attacking Alicia Fox and making it known that she will not be a victim at the hands of Paige any longer.

AJ has been rather subdued as of late. Though she has shown signs of her instability and unpredictability, she has not been pushed to the brink. It would not be surprising, at this point, if Paige brought that out of her leading into Hell in a Cell.

If the pairing of the Brit and Fox is a thing going forward, the fiendish duo could be exactly what it takes to push AJ to her breaking point. And that will bring out both the best, and the worst, of the Divas champion.

Loser: Big Show

After tearing the Russian flag down on Raw as part of his pro-American stance in the war with Rusev, Big Show found himself on the receiving end of a predictable beatdown at the hands of the Bulgarian Brute as Lana watched on.

The World's Largest Athlete had to know that there would be repercussions.

With that said, the superior athleticism from Rusev, which was on display in the form of the jumping sidekick, may ultimately be Big Show's downfall. Big Show cannot match the speed and agility of his rival, meaning he will have to overwhelm him with strength and fury.

We saw Mark Henry try that same approach and fail miserably. Expect Big Show to meet the same fate.
