WWE SmackDown Spoilers: Complete Results and Analysis for October 3

Erik BeastonSep 30, 2014

After an episode of Raw during which Dean Ambrose established himself as a main event player in today's WWE, the Lunatic Fringe rolled into SmackDown and once again was at odds with John Cena, Seth Rollins, Kane and Randy Orton.

What will The Authority have in store for the United States champion? More importantly, what will Ambrose have in store for them? And why is Cena on SmackDown this week? Couldn't he just leave the show be?

After disgracing the Russian flag on Raw, it was clear that Big Show would be asked to apologize on SmackDown. How would Rusev and Lana react?

  • John Cena kicked off the show. Dean Ambrose interrupted and the two argued about their disdain for Seth Rollins and who should get him first. Kane, Seth Rollins and Randy Orton interrupted them and a tag match was made for the main event.
  • Dolph Ziggler and Sheamus defeated The Miz and Damien Sandow. After the match, Sheamus attacked Sandow with a steel chair.
  • Paige defeated Naomi. After the match, Alicia Fox joined Paige in a two-on-one beatdown of Naomi before AJ Lee made the same. Paige hightailed it, hiding behind JBL.
  • Big Show apologized for ripping down the Russian flag on Raw. Rusev and Lana retorted before the Bulgarian Brute attacked the World's Largest Athlete with the flag pole.
  • The Usos defeated Slater Gator. The Bunny made an appearance and took out Hornswoggle.
  • Cesaro defeated R-Truth
  • John Cena and Dean Ambrose defeated Randy Orton and Kane by DQ when Seth Rollins interfered. Cena left to chase Rollins away, leaving Ambrose with the heel to close out the show.

Analysis

This week's SmackDown certainly benefits from star power that it typically is not privy to. Not only does "The Viper" Randy Orton compete in the night's main event but John Cena makes a rare appearance on the Friday night program. Together, they make up one half of the blockbuster tag team main event.

Dean Ambrose continues to benefit from working with elite performers at the top of the card, something that will only make his already impressive reactions that much louder.

Seth Rollins' involvement in the match should really be no surprise. It's typical WWE booking. Rather than put any given main event star over another, they schedule a screwy finish to protect all involved. If only they were more protective of some of their midcard stars, the overall product may be better off.

Elsewhere on the show, it appears as though Alicia Fox and Paige may be paired together for the foreseeable future, which is not a bad thing. With the latter and current WWE Divas champion AJ Lee involved in a story that has stretched months, it is imperative that WWE Creative continue to develop new ways to advance the program in order to prevent it from getting stale.

Plus it gets Alicia on television. Any longtime readers know how much I appreciate it.

Rusev punishes Big Show for his actions from Raw while Dolph Ziggler and Sheamus pick up a big win over Miz and Damien Sandow, who are officially the punching bags of WWE's midcard.

Overall, Friday's show looks like a solid way to spend two hours, especially with that main event. Give it a look, but go out of your way to skip the Bunny nonsense.
