Joe Burgett's Wrestling Rant of the Week!
Joe Burgett Jun 14, 2009
Welcome to Joe Burgett's Rant of the Week. You know, for the longest time, people have always talked around the water cooler about things revolving mostly around sports.
While we are not at a water cooler, but B/R, I still feel we can do what we would normally do at the water cooler, and that is talk sports, more specifically, sports entertainment.
We all love wrestling here in the wrestling section of B/R, if we didn't why would we be here, right?

Fresh Backstage WWE Rumors 👊

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
You may have a few here who joined up specifically to bash wrestling, just to have something to do with their meaningless lives. It is something to get them off, I guess, because let's face it, there’s probably no love interest in their life!
Anyway, enough about that. Let’s get down to business. More specifically, the reason I am writing this article.
During RAW we basically saw what was supposedly being set up for three weeks in Batista getting "injured."
Legacy came out and “tore Batista's arm apart”—or so we were supposed to think—and took him out.
This would have been better if we had seen something more damaging happen.
The arm was positioned comfortably so that Batista would be ok, but I wanted more, maybe see it slammed into the steel steps or something. We didn't even see him bleed.
This was geared towards taking Batista out because he was really hurt, but because the WWE had stupidly given him the WWE Title at Extreme Rules, they had to scramble to find a good way to take Batista out for awhile, yet make it look believable.
Batista actually got injured three weeks before The Extreme Rules PPV, which was why the Steel Cage match lasted only seven minutes or so. This basically showed how crappy a WWE Champion Randy Orton is.
He had a lot of momentum going into the match and then he loses that quickly? You have got to be kidding me. I mean Orton is supposed to be this great heel in the WWE, and yet he can't win without DiBiase and Rhodes?
This is not even a normal match we are talking about here, Orton had this match. A Steel Cage match has no rules, something a guy like Orton should have taken advantage of. The WWE should remember the character for once.
He did it before, and yet when you need Orton the most to be this great heel you basically make him look worse than SmackDown's fourth best heel in Dolph Ziggler.
At least Ziggler is taking it to a big man in Khali alone without help, yet Orton, who is supposed to be the top heel in the company, can't beat Batista by himself?
Again, dumb move by the WWE. And there are many reasons why of course. First off, you knew Batista was injured weeks in advance of the ER PPV, yet you gave him the WWE Title anyway? Vince, you’re a moron for letting this pass through you.
Think for one second, you could easily do the same injury storyline with Batista while Orton was still Champion. Take him out in the back or something, it doesn't matter. If Triple H is supposed to win the title on RAW Monday night, then let him do the deed.
It would be okay, because at least Triple H would be able to hold the title. I know people do not want to see Triple H hold his 14th World Title, but still, this has to happen.
If Orton wins, then it is a complete farce to me. You have him lose to Batista, who was already injured.
Then you give him the WWE Title back a week later on RAW? If that happens then the whole thing makes you sit back and think, how idiotic is the creative team?
I wonder if the creative team actually watches some of the crap they put out for us to see. If they did, maybe we wouldn't be seeing some of it.
I can't wait to see the commercial-free RAW coming up. If they screw that up, then USA is not going to be happy.
Orton winning on RAW tomorrow would show what complete idiots the creative team has, I'm just saying. So that may be a reason they won't have Orton win, but who knows?
John Cena is an interesting person to think about winning. I don't think he or Big Show will win the match though, considering they are both in a rivalry together that creative keeps shoving down our throat. It is going no where and it is sooooo boring.
They are trying to push Big Show obviously, but come on, you can make it a little interesting WWE, can't you?
We have seen nothing with the Miz and Cena by themselves; every time we do, Show gets involved.
This triple threat of a storyline doesn’t seem to be working to me because you have The Miz, who is a young upstart in the company, and then a tepid “Largest Athlete in the World,” both gunning for "Captain America," John Cena.
Even Cena cannot save this from being crap. I say kill the whole thing with Show, and let the Miz and Cena go at it.
We have seen enough matches with Show and Cena, give Miz a turn. He is starting to get really interesting and is saying everything many bloggers out there are saying about Cena, basically getting on their good side.
The WWE knows this, which is probably the reason why they are allowing him to say things about Cena's rapping past and movies, all things the WWE produced, mind you.
Miz is just now being the heel they dreamed of when he was drafted to RAW, which I thought was a dumb move to begin with. Miz proved me wrong, so I have to give him credit.
We have seen him talk, but every time there is anything involving the wrestling part of things, Show and Cena are involved and we hardly, if ever, see Miz. So pick one or the other WWE; I say go with Miz, though.
If we keep seeing this triple threat go on, I won't blame you if you change the channel.
Switching up. . .
Overall, the Extreme Rules PPV was very good, we saw some great matches that night, so I have to give the WWE credit.
The problem I had was all the title changes, but the last title change of the night was the one I have the biggest issue with.
I figured the WWE would not have Jeff Hardy win any title match because of his contract issues. So when Hardy won the World Heavyweight Title match against Edge in a Ladder Match, I was kind of shocked.
Then I totally got it when CM Punk came out to cash in Money in the Bank on him. He officially had the shortest World Heavyweight Title reign in history as Punk stole the title from him.
I figured like the rest of mankind that the WWE was thinking of turning Punk heel. It made sense, because after all, Hardy is one of the most over men in the company and his fan base is massive.
When the announcers say he gets a rock star ovation, they are not lying, he actually does. The WWE Universe loves Hardy, but they also like Punk.
I have stated my reasoning for why I don't see Punk working as a heel before in recent articles, but I can safely say it looks as if the WWE is not doing a heel turn with him.
I mean after the promo he did on SmackDown!, he looks to be a face still. We have seen face feuds in the WWE before, take Cena vs. Michaels, for example. It was seen at Wrestlemania a few years back.
So we could easily see a Hardy vs. Punk rivalry developing. However, it looks as if the WWE wants Edge in on the party. He will bring the heel role obviously, so that Hardy and the Champion Punk can stay face.
I don't like the idea of having Edge in on it, considering triple threat storylines get annoying (have you forgotten the earlier part of my rant already?). I see either a Hardy/Punk or Edge/Punk rivalry developing more than a Punk/Hardy/Edge one.
If they do, then it would work better than Cena/Miz/Show, but it would still not be too interesting.
In fact, the WWE is stumped on how they are going to go about developing it. This match was originally supposed to be done at The Bash PPV coming up in a few weeks.
Because RAW is doing this 3-hour special where all the World Titles in the company will be on the line, "The 3 for All", the WWE decided to have the match then. So they have to do something totally different for The Bash.
They will not be able to do the same match of course, so that would mean it would be either Hardy or Edge going for the World Heavyweight Title at The Bash. And because Punk did not go heel, it will probably be Edge.
This is a terrible idea by the WWE if they go with it, as B/R Writer Shane Howard wrote earlier in the week, Hardy/Punk would be great to see because of the two personalities.
You have the recovering drug addict in Hardy vs the Straightedge Superstar in Punk. It would probably work better, though, if we had a heel Punk. So, as I said before, it is probably why Punk will take on Edge most likely.
Although to quote B/R Writer Ross here, I say pursue Hardy/Punk!
But, of course, the WWE in their pansy ways will not go with it because, quite frankly, it kills all they have worked for in crappy storylines for the longest time.
If they were to add a very interesting one that would actually make sense, we wrestling fans wouldn't want that, now would we?
