What Boston Celtics Must Do to Replicate Game 3 Dominance

Alex KayMay 17, 2012

The Boston Celtics absolutely destroyed the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night. Kevin Garnett led the team with 27 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and a steal on the way to a 107-91 victory.

That win gave them a 2-1 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals and a great chance to run away with the series now that they have the advantage.

Let’s take a look at what Boston must do to put Philly out of their misery.

Continue to Protect the Ball

In extremely close Games 1 and 2, Boston combined for 30 turnovers. In Game 3, they had just seven.

Coach Doc Rivers told his troops before the series even began that it was the No. 1 thing they must do against the Sixers and his prophecy has held true.

"

"They want to get into transition, and when they are in transition, they score," said Rivers. "When they are in half court, it's a little more difficult, so that's going to be our task. ... Listen, we're not going to outrun them, they are faster than us, they are going to win the track meet, no doubt about that. We have to find a way to get them to play in the half court."

"

Philadelpia was forced to play in the half court last night and was completely exposed. If the C’s continue to squeeze the orange, they will be just fine.

Get Kevin Garnett Involved

This possessed man has been playing like his vintage self since being called out by the Atlanta Hawks owner in Game 6 of their first-round series.

He’s one of the most competitive players in the NBA and will do anything necessary to win.

Far too often over the past few years, KG has been willing to facilitate and take jump shots. He would rarely bang down low and get to the rim.  With so many injuries to the Celtics’ frontline, he has had no choice but to play center.

In the 2012 postseason, he’s playing like the best big man in the league and has to continue to be involved in Boston’s game plan.

Have Rajon Rondo Push Ball

Rondo is a triple-double threat every night, but his biggest talent is getting the ball up the court and to a player in position to score.

He did that to great success on Wednesday night, totaling up 14 assists and just a single turnover.

When the defense is respecting his passing abilities too much and playing soft, he’s got the ability to slash to the cup to keep them honest.

If he can keep that up, there is no way the C’s are losing.
