NBA Trade Rumors: Dwight Howard and Players on the Move After All-Star Weekend

Donald WoodFeb 16, 2012

With the NBA trade deadline approaching as fast as this season is passing by, the rumors about the biggest names on the market are flying.

Stars like Dwight Howard and Steve Nash have been rumored for months, and the conclusion of the All-Star break will see their possible deals getting completed.

Watch for all three of these stars to be packing their bags before this season's trade deadline, because they are heading out of town.

Dwight Howard

Despite being the best center in the NBA, Dwight Howard’s lack of willingness to extend his contract will force the Orlando Magic to make a deal—just after they host the All-Star game.

The feeling has always been that while Howard has not taken back his trade request, the team would not move him before they hosted the All-Star game. Seeing their former star return just days or weeks after a deal would be a PR disaster.

After the festivities are over, though, you can expect Howard and the team to meet, and then the process of moving the star can really begin. With such a short time, this move has the potential to turn into an auction, with the Magic getting some really great pieces.

Steve Nash

The 38-year-old point guard still has game left in his heart, but Steve Nash’s body is starting to go south. If there was ever a time for him to ask for a trade and get it, now would be that time.

There are plenty of teams on the cusp of being playoff contenders that would die to have a court technician like Nash in their backcourt.

With all of the trouble that the Los Angeles Lakers have in their backcourt, it would be a great idea for all parties involved to kick the tires on a possible Nash-to-L.A. deal.

The former All-Star hasn’t been playing great basketball as of late, but he is still a worthy backup center in the NBA who could eat major minutes if needed. He is also a free agent after this season, and the Hornets want to trade him.

With plenty of contending teams looking for depth at center, there would be a much bigger market for Kaman if he wasn’t stuck on a team owned by the NBA. Teams saw the Chris Paul fiasco and want nothing to do with it.

Eventually, at least one team will call the bluff of the Hornets matchmakers, and Kaman will be dealt to a team like the Indiana Pacers that need a defensive player in the paint.
