NFL Playoff Schedule 2012: Power Ranking Upset Chances for All Wild-Card Teams

Tim KeeneyJan 2, 2012

Here's a quick look at each of the NFL wild-card matchups and the likelihood of an upset happening in each one.

Best Chance: Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers are the lower seed and as a result have to go on the road, but they are fortunate enough to be able to play the reeling Denver Broncos.

Teams seem to have figured out Tim Tebow, and as a result Denver has lost three in a row. Still, the Broncos managed to win the AFC West at 8-8.

The Steelers have a defense that will shut down Denver and an offense that can easily score on the Broncos' solid D.

Pittsburgh will easily pull off the "upset."

Good Chance: Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons lucked out in Week 17 by getting a Detroit Lions loss. Atlanta then proceeded to take care of Tampa Bay and just like that they moved up to the No. 5 spot.

Their reward?

Not having to play the white-hot New Orleans Saints

The Giants beat the Cowboys 31-14, which means the Falcons will travel to New York. Still though, I like their chances against an inconsistent Giants team.

Matt Ryan has been playing extremely well as of late, and this could easily turn into a shootout. I'll take Matty Ice in that case.

Decent Chance: Cincinnati Bengals

The Houston Texans haven't been the same without Matt Schaub, but they still have a very good defense and an even better run game.

The Bengals, of course, also have a good defense and this one should turn into a grind-it-out, Big Ten-type of game. If that ends up being the case, I think the Texans, who have a better running game and are at home, will prevail.

Still though, the Bengals will be in it and will have a chance at moving on to face the Patriots.

Bad Chance: Detroit Lions

The Lions are a solid team for a No. 6 seed, but they unfortunately go up against the New Orleans Saints.

The Lions just gave up 480 yards and six touchdowns against Matt Flynn, so I can't imagine how much they'll give up to Drew Brees and company on the road.

Detroit has some playmakers and it is certainly on the way up for the future, but it doesn't have much of a chance in this one.
