Fashion, as the saying goes, is in the eye of the beholder.
Try telling that to today's footballers.
At one time, football was a working-class sport played by blue-collar thugs who dressed themselves accordingly. Today that's just not the case. As player salaries have become more and more outrageous, so have the fashion choices of the players.
Don't get us wrong. We're not fashion critics here. But we know bad when we see it.
And that's what we'll show you here.
Enjoy.
David Beckham
Your clothes don't match, David. (Metro.co.uk)
Some people think David Beckham is a fashion icon.
We think otherwise.
Perhaps it's because he lets a Spice Girl dress him, but we just can't figure out why Beckham chooses to wear stuff like that picture to the left. And then there's this. And this.
Sure, sometimes he shows up in a suit and put together. But we have a feeling that one day he's going to show up wearing this on the street.
The ladies would love it, but we're calling Dave a fashion faux-pas.
Cristiano Ronaldo
Metro.co.uk
Cristiano Ronaldo might be the most despised footballer in modern history.
He has so much talent, but he does so many stupid, stupid things.
The only one we really need to point to appears on this page.
What is he trying to look like anyway? An exotic dancer? A living bronze statue?
Ick.
Michael Ballack
Metro.co.uk
A friend of mine used to joke that Germans are all chronically unhip.
I found that to be true when I spent a couple weeks there this past summer.
And Michael Ballack, with this '70s pornstar-chic getup, only reinforces it.
This is not so much bad as much as it is very, very funny.
Rio Ferdinand
Metro.co.uk
Whoa, Rio!
Where to begin?
I've always kind of thought Rio Ferdinand looks like a duck. But in this picture he just looks crazy.
Again, the ladies surely love it, but to an impartial observer, Rio just looks ridiculous.
Djibril Cisse
Metro.co.uk
If it's not one thing with Cisse, it's another.
On the field, he's a great player that can never seem to stay with a club for more than a few seasons at most.
Off the field, he's got the bad hair, the bad beard and the bad fashion.
Time to go back to basics, Djibril.
