AC Milan President Silvio Berlusconi: 50 Percent of Barcelona's Success is Luck
AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi is no stranger to the front page of the sports section of any paper. You would think that Berlusconi, the president of Italy, would have more important things to do than comment on the success of Barcelona. However, he has done just that, claiming that although Barcelona are the best team in the world much of their success is based on luck.
According to a report by Goal.com, Berlusconi claims that only 50 percent of what Barcelona does comes down to "class, skill and tactics. The other half is a result of the luck they've had." His comments will surely cause a stir in the camp of Barcelona, who comfortably defeated Italian side Napoli 5-0.
Let us just consider exactly what Berlusconi is claiming. Barcelona's players, coach and staff are not the sole reason behind the success of the club. Rather luck—something they have no control over—has ultimately resulted in the winning of La Liga titles, Spanish Cup titles, Spanish Super Cup titles, UEFA Champions League titles, European Super Cup titles and Club World Cup titles.
There is no doubt some footballing press questions certain refereeing decisions that go Barcelona's way in various fixtures. However, even if this is the case for a few instances, this would only take the club so far. Barcelona's success comes down purely to the hard work of it's players and staff. Luck does not have a part.
Just some food for thought: If this so called luck does exist to such an extent in the modern world of football, why doesn't it shine upon Arsenal, Juventus or Real Madrid?
