Liverpool FC: Suarez, Adam, Downing and Carroll Give Reds Future Great Hope

Thomas AtzenhofferJun 4, 2018

Despite the Reds being held to a draw in their home opener, their newer faces showed a lot of promise for the future.

Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez continue to prove they will be bright starts of the future and "El Pistolero" in particular looks to be the most endeared icon of the new batch so far.

The recent arrivals of Charlie Adam and Stewart Downing are also looking as though they will be more key to the future of Liverpool than many may have believed them to be.

After the opening weekend we can take a look at what they showed us on Saturday and perhaps take away that this is a bright attacking combination for the future.

Stewart Downing

Downing may have been an overpriced signing to many but he showed show great quality on Saturday.

His pace down the wing has been an element sorely missed an Anfield in recent years. While Dirk Kuyt has been an excellent deputy and has shown true industry beyond measure, his true position has always been up front and he is needed there to provide cover.

Downing's run from past the center-half line all the way to his shot from the top of the box was excellent, and had he scored it would have been a debut for the ages for the new player.

He looks as though he will prove to be a great asset for this season and those to come.

Andy Carroll

Another signing along with the entire lot of new Reds that gets cast down for his price tag is Andy Carroll.

Say what you want about the big Geordie but he showed great skill for a player of his size at the weekend.

His chested swinging-in cross from Adam with the turn and shot was brilliant; he was unlucky there to not have scored. Again he was unlucky with another turn to his right foot in the second half from the top of the box.

On top of it all, he showed great skill heading the ball as well and Sunderland are lucky their former Newcastle nemesis did not put two or three into the back of the net.

Charlie Adam

Charlie Adam proved exactly why Kenny Dalglish wanted him so badly.

His set-piece skills proved deadly for the Reds, and his passes should have produced even more in the long run.

The headed goal from Suarez was a great setup cross from Adam. Again, his cross to Carroll should have put the Reds 2-0 up at the 20th minute.

Adam looks to be a great midfield signing and should work excellent with Steven Gerrard in the middle once the captain returns.

Luis Suarez

4 of 5

It is no wonder he is the talk of the future for the Reds. Luis Suarez has been a machine since he arrived on Merseyside.

Yesterday he had a chance to put the club up at the fifth minute after being brought down for a penalty. However, he was a little over-zealous and skied it to his and the fans complete dismay.

But the little Uruguayan proved once again he was worthy of his No. 7 kit, as just seven minutes later he headed home the go-ahead goal thanks to a great free kick from Charlie Adam.

His runs and pace continued to be a nuisance until he was withdrawn in the second half, but he is certainly the future of the Reds attack.

Jordan Henderson and Jose Enrique also had good first showings. Although Henderson is likely to play the smallest role in the new season out of all the new outfield players.

It looks like the new signings will be better than many have tipped them to be. While their prices may be higher than most want to think that they should be, this could be a great season for them all to come together.

I look to see Adam provide excellent service again next week in the Reds' first real big test against the top four when they go to the Emirates to face Arsenal this coming Saturday.
