Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Gunners Set to Sign Youngster from Southampton

Arsenal are set to end their transfer inactivity, as youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is undergoing a medical at the Emirates.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is regarded as one of the top English prospects. The 17-year-old has often been compared to Arsenal winger Theo Walcott, since he is very fast and has no problem beating defenders. Unlike Walcott, the youngster can play on both sides of the pitch.

Last season, Oxlade-Chamberlain was one of the keys to helping his Southampton side get promoted into the Champion ship, as he scored nine goals in 34 appearances.

The Guardian suggests that the deal would be for £10 million, while ESPN Soccernet reported that it would be for £12 million.

If Oxlade-Chamberlain were to sign for Arsenal, it is evident that he would not be starting right away. The Gunners, who have a surplus of wingers (including Walcott, Gervinho, Arshavin, possibly Mata, and more), would probably take him off the bench for a few matches. He might break into the starting XI in a few years.

This would help Arsene Wenger, as he has been getting endless amounts of criticism for not spending any money.

Hopefully for the Gunners, Oxlade-Chamberlain can use his talent and one day become a very good player.
