Real Madrid Debate: Is Carlos Tevez the Man to Lead Real Madrid to Success?

Mohamed Al-HendyJun 7, 2018

In recent weeks, Carlos Tevez has been heavily linked with a transfer to Real Madrid

The Argentine has already openly expressed his unhappiness with his living situation in Manchester, and wants to move somewhere where he can be together with his family, who apparently would be willing to consider living elsewhere in Europe, but not in Manchester.

Real Madrid would be an especially favorable destination considering the similar culture, as well as the Argentinians already at the club (Fernando Gago and Gonzalo Higuain).

Additionally, with his price tag having recently been reset to £50 million, there are very few clubs that can afford to sign the Argentine striker.

In fact, the only two clubs who could possibly have the funds for such a massive deal are Inter Milan and Real Madrid, and Inter Milan have recently distanced themselves from a possible purchase of the Manchester City striker.

Most other wealthy clubs have either already spent too much in the transfer market, or simply have no need to sign Tevez.

So that leaves Real Madrid in the driving seat. If they want to sign the striker, it seems that nothing more than his massive transfer fee will stand in their way.

But, the question is, is Carlos Tevez needed at Real Madrid? Would he be worth the money spent to sign him? The pros and cons of a potential transfer are weighed below.

Pros (Reasons Why Carlos Tevez Should Be Signed)

1) There is no doubting that Carlos Tevez is a world class striker, and would add quality to Real Madrid's already impressive group of strikers.

2) Additionally, Jose Mourinho has already made clear his intention to sign another striker, and Carlos Tevez would be a great option skill wise.

3) Carlos Tevez is a hard worker, and Jose Mourinho likes players who work hard in training and on the pitch the most, so it is very possible that Carlos Tevez would be well liked by Jose Mourinho.

Cons (Reasons Why Carlos Tevez Shouldn't Be Signed)

1) Although Carlos Tevez is a hardworking striker, he is a diminutive striker who relies more on his strength than technique to score goals. He is an excellent fit for the Premier League, but in La Liga, where technique is more important than strength, Carlos Tevez may struggle to be as effective as he has been in the EPL.

2) Most of the rumors linking Tevez with Real Madrid have been based on the expectation that Karim Benzema could be sold to Arsenal to free up space and cash for the striker. However, Mourinho now believes that Karim Benzema has finally matured and "now thinks about football in the same way that I do," so there is practically no chance of the French striker being sold this summer.

3) Given that Mourinho values both Higuain and Karim Benzema highly, Real Madrid need a good backup striker, like Emmanuel Adebayor, not another world class striker who will cause unrest and take up a good deal of minutes from Real Madrid's two primary strikers. Carlos Tevez simply doesn't fit the bill, and costs way more than a backup striker should cost.

4) Carlos Tevez doesn't really fit in Real Madrid's formation. Although Manchester City did appear to play a 4-2-3-1 like Real do last season, Carlos Tevez was generally given the freedom to dribble as much as he wanted to and create his own chances.

At Real Madrid, the 4-2-3-1 is much more disciplined, and the only player given the freedom to really create opportunities on his own is Ronaldo. So Carlos Tevez would have to adjust that aspect of his game.

5) Finally, Carlos Tevez isn't a target man, and offers practically no aerial threat, while Karim Benzema and Gonzalo Higuain (both being slightly over six feet) offer a considerable threat in the air. Thus they're more desirable candidates for the one striker spot that Real Madrid usually play with than Carlos Tevez is.

Conclusion

For me, the cons significantly outweigh the pros, and I think that our current options are much better fits for our team than Carlos Tevez would ever be. This is a transfer I believe Jose Mourinho should steer clear of at all costs.
