Manchester United Transfers and Rumours: 4 Biggest Gossip Stories of the Week
Manchester United continues to make the most of their summer tour in the United States while participating in the World Football Challenge and also playing friendlies with the MLS All-Stars, whom the Red Devils defeated 4-1, as well as the New England Revolution two weeks ago.
As they prepare for their final match of their preseason tour, it looks to be a great spectacle once more. Just over two months ago Manchester United walked into virtually home-field advantage over Barcelona in the Champions League Final as it was played in London, England's Wembley Stadium.
However, despite their believed advantage, Pep Guardiola's side got the better of Sir Alex Ferguson for the second time in three seasons.
Now, once again, they will square off as their teams search for full fitness coming up on the opening weeks of both La Liga and the Barclay's Premier League.
United also will look to their match next week as they play rivals Manchester City for the Community Shield in the first trophy contest of the new English season.
Many things have continued to happen surrounding United this week, and the biggest gossip of the week for the club follows in the next few pages.

New Deals Galore as Park, Hernandez and Valencia All Eye Contract Extensions
1 of 4Manchester United looks to sign up their existing talent for the future as additional transfers gossip has seemed to fade, and additional years on current player deals looks more in line as the club looks forward.
Antonio Valencia signed at the start of the 2009-10 season from Wigan Athletic for £16 million and looks to be set to sign a two-year extension and take his wages up to £80,000 per week. Valencia participated in only 20 games last season scoring three goals and making three assists, but the retirement of Paul Scholes means there is more playing time on the cards for him next season.
Javier Hernandez likewise is set to go through additional contract negotiation as it appears his appearances and performance last season met and exceeded what was expected of him after his £7 million move from Chivas Guadalajara. It is not yet known what is on offer for him.
Park Ji-Sung also is in line for a two-year extension as reported earlier in the week and would see his wages raise to £70,000 per week. There has been no news of the deal being completed, as it is expected for it to wait until United return to England next week after they face Barcelona in their last state side friendly.
Javier Hernandez Looks To Be out of Barcelona and Community Shield Matches
2 of 4Two days ago, Javier Hernandez was reported to have sustained a head injury in training for United before their preseason friendly against the MLS Allstars.
After a brief hospital stay is it now set to keep the 2011 Gold Cup Golden Boot Winner out of action for at least two weeks. That will keep him sidelined for the Red Devils friendly rematch with Barcelona and also for their season opening Manchester Derby with Manchester City in the FA Community Shield match next weekend.
Sir Alex Ferguson was quoted by ESPN from his latest press conference:
""He got concussion in training and we dealt with that."
"We took him to hospital, he had a scan, it was all clear."
"He is back in the hotel. He is in his room and will be out for a couple of weeks. He would never have been available for Barcelona anyway because he has just come back from his break after the Gold Cup."
"He will travel with us though. He is okay for that."
"
Chicharito is expected to play a major role in Manchester United's upcoming season after scoring 20 goals last season and making a great impression on his Manager.
Possible Move for Roma Forward Mirko Vucinic Still Has a Chance
3 of 4While it seems a move that would not really benefit the Red Devils, there still looks to be a possibility that AS Roma forward Mirko Vucinic could join the club once they return to England.
Manchester United CEO David Gill broached the subject in a recent exclusive interview shown on the clubs official site, MUTV.com with these statements:
""We are looking at one more player to bring in."
"Nothing is happening and nothing is imminent but we will see what happens when we get home."
"There will still be 31 days of the transfer window to see if anything develops. The important point to understand, and Alex has made clear, is that we need someone who is going to improve the quality of the squad."
"We have a great squad and to get into that squad you need to be a world class player. If you can't get the players you want, there is no point buying someone for the sake of it."
"But you never know. There is often movement in August. I am not saying I am working on anything specific because I'm not, but that situation could change quickly when we get back to Carrington."
"
In all honesty, the only reason I would see the need for the Montenegro international would be if Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov were to leave. However, he seems to have patched things up with his manager and Sir Alex Ferguson has had nothing but praise for his EPL Golden Boot Winning striker:
""What I have to say though is he (Berbatov) has been brilliant, first class,"
"His training has been terrific. Missing out on the final was not easy, but there were seven or eight players disappointed at not being involved in it."
"
In all honesty, if this move were to happen, I do not see it having much value for the club as Vucinic will not take the place of anyone in the forward role and would honestly be around fourth choice for the Red Devils right on the same level as Danny Welbeck, Federico Macheda.
As well as on the level with the youngsters, let us not forget about Michael Owen, whom while injury prone, has been a proven producer for United when healthy and in a game. He has made 15 starts and 33 substitution appearances for the Red Devils and has totaled 14 goals and an assist.
For the number of total minutes played, that is not to bad for the former Liverpool legend.
Could Beckham Return to England and Retire a Manc?
4 of 4David Beckham was the man of the match when his former club, Manchester United, defeated his MLS-All-Star squad on Wednesday night. Although it might have been a bit of tongue and cheek by Becks and his former manager, the comment from both raise an interesting question.
In his post-match interview when asked what words the two had exchanged following the game Beckham has this to say:
""He said he wanted to sign me."
"
Ferguson himself said this about his former star:
""I thought David did really well for them," said the United boss. "At 36 years of age he still has great energy.
"It was a close game and we got the goals at the right time. The one before half-time put us into a comfortable position. From there, we were never going to lose."
"
However, it may be a bit of joking back and forth between two fellow professionals, but could it be possible for Beckham to make a dramatic return to Manchester United and finish his career where he started?
The retirement of Paul Scholes has left open a veteran's role in the United midfield, and Beckham still has it, and with not much time left on his contract int he United States with the LA Galaxy, he could possibly make a return on a short term contract.
He has never seemed ready for a permanent stay as he constantly found ways to keep away from the US, either at AC Milan, injured or attempting a coup to return to England at Spurs.
Nevertheless it is still an interesting idea to mewl over in your brain.
