Paraguay vs. Uruguay: 5 Players That Will Impact Copa America 2011 Final
The 2011 Copa America Final will shockingly feature Paraguay and Uruguay, as favorites Brazil and Argentina were eliminated in the quarterfinal round.
Paraguay has yet to win a match as they played to a draw in all five games so far, but advanced on penalty kicks against Brazil and Venezuela.
Uruguay played incredible defense against Uruguay even though they were a player down for most of the match and knocked them off in penalties, and they defeated Peru comfortably in the semifinals.
Here are four players to keep an eye on in the Copa America Final:
1. Luis Suarez (Uruguay)
Suarez scored two goals against Peru and is the focal point of the offense. Diego Forlan is the set-up guy for Uruguay, but they rely on Suarez to finish.
Paraguay's defense will swarm Suarez early and often and attempt to slow him down at every opportunity. However, if he can find some space, he will certainly make Paraguay pay.
2. Justo Villar (Paraguay)
Villar is going to be called upon quite a bit to stop strikes from Forlan and Suarez. He has posted consecutive shutouts over 240 minutes of play and won back-to-back shootouts.
If there is a player that can save the day for Paraguay it is Villar.
3. Roque Santa Cruz (Paraguay)
No one knows whether or not Santa Cruz will be healthy enough to play in the final, but there is no doubt all eyes will be on him even if he doesn't start the match.
There is a good possibility he could come on as a late substitute if Paraguay needs him, even if he is not 100 percent.
Santa Cruz is the all-time leader in goals for Paraguay for a reason as he can be lethal with a football if he is within range.
4. Fernando Muslera (Uruguay)
Muslera has been the best goalie in this tournament but has been known to be hot and cold in the past. He can be incredible one moment then have a mental lapse the next.
If Muslera continues to play as superbly as he has in the past few weeks it is going to be extremely difficult for Paraguay to put the ball in the back of the net.
5. Diego Forlan (Uruguay)
As mentioned previously, Forlan is the set-up man for Uruguay. He controls the set pieces and distributes the ball very well out of the midfield.
Forlan is a classic No. 10 and will need to play a solid game for Uruguay to win. He has long been considered their best all-around player and Uruguay will need his deliveries to be on point come Sunday afternoon.
The match will air live on Univision on Sunday, July 24 at 3 p.m. (ET).
