Carlos Tevez: 11 Worst Fits for the Manchester City Striker
Carlos Tevez is regarded as one of the best footballers in the world, but there is an enigma that surrounds the Argentinian striker: Why can he not stick with a team?
Tevez' longest stint was with his first club,Ā Boca Juniors (four seasons), then on to Corinthians where he lasted a couple seasons, moved on to West Ham for a season, Manchester United for a pair, and then a short stint with Manchester City.
He looks to be on the move once more as he expressed his need and desire to move on elsewhere, pretty emphatically I might add. Tevez, in his career, has appeared in 331 games, scoring 150 goals total.
For such a top flight player, why is he so hard to hold onto?Ā
That is a fantastic question that I wish I had the answer to. However, in the end, it doesn't matter because it seems wherever he goes he has success, and many enjoy watching his hard-nosed, physical type of play.
This article is not so much about where he will end up next season, but instead where he won't or should not end up. Let the comments pour in.Ā
Manchester United
1 of 11Carlos Tevez had a nice stint with the Red Devils at Old Trafford, scoring 19 goals in 63 appearances.
However, the fans still have not seemed to be able to get over the fact that Tevez turned in his red colors for the blue colors of Manchester City.Ā
I am sure the forgiving souls of the Manchester United faithful would like to see Tevez back, but there would be nowhere on the field for him. With the emergence of Chicharito, the rock of Wayne Rooney, and the soon to be signings of a top flight midfielder (hopefully), Tevez would be restricted to the bench.Ā
It also does not help that Tevez stated he will never return to Manchester ever again, even for a holiday, once his contract is officially terminated.Ā
Barcelona
2 of 11With an onslaught of rumors circling around where Tevez may end up next season, Barcelona always seems to pop up as an option.
Simply put, this is not happening. A terrible fit.
Some may say the Argentinian connection between he and Messi would be potent, but I would disagree. Argentina has been struggling as of late in the Copa America, and they have never seemed to be able to win internationally.
There is a surplus of talent in Barca, and Tevez' services are not needed. He would not be able to have a starting spot on a consistent basis, and he would most likely sulk if not put in the starting lineup.
A completely bad situation for the team, financially, and on a chemistry basis.Ā
AC Milan
3 of 11There is speculation about Tevez headed to the San Siro, but not for AC Milan, and for good reason. AC Milan would not be a good fit for the striker with their surplus of players already at that position.Ā
Alexandre Pato, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robinho, Antonio Cassano, and Fillipo Inzaghi round out the top strikers for the Rossoneri. Tevez would not be able to find a proper home at the San Siro, unless he as wearing the blue and black colors of Inter Milan.
Bayern Munich
4 of 11Two words: Franck Ribery.
Now, I know Ribery is a winger and Tevez is a striker, but the two footballers are extremely similar players on the field. Ribery and Tevez both have scars. Argument over (I'm kidding).
Both are hard-nose, physical, motor-never-stops type of players. Now, do not get me wrong. Those are characteristics you want in players, but not on the same side of the field.
With Ivica Olic and Thomas Muller proving their worth, it would be tough to put Tevez behind them in the formation and play off them, which he would have to do most likely.Ā
I just do not see it as an ideal fit for the German Giants or Tevez.
Arsenal
5 of 11With speculation of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri possibly making an exit from Arsenal, the obvious thing for the Gunners to do would be to look at the best possible star-powered player available.
Tevez is an option, but I am afraid not a good one for Arsenal. They need help in the midfield, if it is true that Nasri and Fabregas take off (even one of them).Ā
Theo Walcott has expressed his desire to play up top of the formation. Combine that with Robin van Persie, Nicklas Bendtner, and the fresh signing of Gervinho, you have quite a bit of strikers.
Tevez, like many on the list, would have to compete on a weekly basis and he does not want to do that. I feel as if he wants nothing to do with England anymore, citing he has not been able to learn the language.
To his credit he has only been there for 5 years (sarcasm).
A S Roma
6 of 11AS Roma has been a speculation, but at this time of year, there is speculation of every player going to every team in Europe and abroad.
With that being said, this would not be a good fit for Tevez, even though he has expressed his willingness to play in Italy.
Tevez has been a hermit footballer, taking on a different shell every couple years or so. That cannot mean he is the best locker room guy/teammate.
He is a goal-scoring dynamo, do not get me wrong. But at some point he has to be able to be a team guy and stay invested in his squad.Ā
Francesco Totti is one of the sot-heralded Italian footballers ever, but this would be a terrible combo in the locker room. Totti commands respect from his team, and one bad game by Tevez, or a possible non-start, and he will return to his sulking self and ask for a transfer.
That will not fly with the giallorossi.
Liverpool
7 of 11Liverpool are looking for a new identity with Kenny Dalglish. He has made some key signings thus far into his tenure, but I do not think that a Tevez signing will be a good one.
Tevez would have to battle Luis Suarez, who has quickly become a fan favorite, as well as Andy Carroll, who is touted as one of the highest potential football players in Europe. Dirk Kuyt will not lose a starting role in the squad, so again it is a matter of nowhere for Tevez to play.
I do not think he would work well with the likes of Andy Carroll. They seem to me like too similar of players.
Real Madrid
8 of 11The Spanish giants seem like they could be a nice fit for Tevez, but think again.
Madrid has Cristiano Ronaldo, who is "the" guy, Gonzalo Higuain, and Karim Benzema. Now, they do have room for another striker, but their interest seems to have gotten very quiet.
Jose Mourinho really wanted Tevez in the winter, but since they were unsuccessful, nothing really has seemed to come to the surface. Sergio Aguero has been the apple of Real's eye this summer, and they are fully fixated on signing the fellow Argentinian.
Bad news for Tevez.
Chelsea
9 of 11Chelsea have been rumored to have been making a push for purchasing Carlos Tevez, but I think all the effort will be all for not.
As I have said, and you know by now, Tevez is not a fan of England. That being said, he would have to compete week in, week out with Didier Drogba, Fernando Torres, and Nicklas Anelka.
Not an easy task.
Tevez wants to be the guy on a winning club. He would not be "the" guy for a team like Chelsea. I would be very surprised if the rumors turned out to be true that he was on his way to Stamford Bridge.
Juventus
10 of 11Similar to Francesco Totti, Alessandro Del Piero will not take any kind of dysfunction in the locker room. Tevez would not fit in the surplus of strikers melee that includes: Luca Toni, Vincenzo Iaquinta, Del Piero, and Fabio Quagliarella.Ā
Tevez will not find a home with Juve, for many of the same reasons as the other clubs: too many strikers, not "the" guy, and not willing to compete week in and week out for a spot.
Manchester City
11 of 11It seems the Manchester City hero has worn out his welcome for the English club after he stated his utter disgust for the city of Manchester itself.
After saying he hates everything about the cityāthe weather, the social sceneāit is tough to imagine he would even be wanted back.
Roberto Mancini has done all he can to help change the Argentinian's mind, but it seems his attempt will be unsuccessful. Even though this hurts the squadālosing a star power like that of Tevezāas a Man City fan you should really only want players that want to be there.
If a player is not fully invested in the team and loves the city, and wants to make a difference for the fans, then as a fan you are probably better off.
Still, it will be a loss that stings for a while.
