Javier Hernandez: Top 14 Goals of Chicharito's Debut Season at Manchester United
Javier Hernandez was the biggest surprise in the English Premier League last season, and he was up there as the breakout star of World Football.
Sir Alex Ferguson snapped him up last summer before he had a stellar World Cup with Mexico so that Manchester United ended up with a bargain (£6 million).
He looks sure to be a star in the years to come, but first let's look back at Chicharito's top 14 goals of his debut season as a Red Devil.
Instead of ranking them based on skill or importance, I've decided to go chronologically.
14. Aug. 8, 2010
Chicharito had scored in three straight preseason matches for Manchester United, and he continued that form with his first competitive goal in his first competitive match.
In the Community Shield against Chelsea last August, Chicharito scored United's second goal (in a 3-1 win) when he scuffed Antonio Valencia's cross, and the ball literally came off his face.
Not the best technique, but it went in the back of the net all the same.
13. Sept. 29, 2010
Chicharito's first Champions League goal was a dramatic, late winner at Valencia.
He scored in the 85th minute, just after he'd been denied by the post and just seven minutes after he'd come on the pitch to give United the 1-0 win.
12. Oct. 16, 2010
Chicharito's first Premier League goal came against West Brom at Old Trafford on Oct. 16 just five minutes into the game.
This 2-2 draw was the only home game in the league United didn't win all season long.
11. Oct. 24, 2010
Chicharito scored his first away league goals last season at Stoke in what was also his first brace for the club.
He scored both of United's goals in the 2-1 victory, the first of which was a back-header into the back of the net.
Go to 1:05 for the first goal, and sorry for the music.
10. Oct. 26, 2010
Chicharito's first League Cup goal came in the dying moments against Wolverhampton.
He showed so much composure to flick it over the keeper and gave the Red Devils a 3-2 win and a spot in the quarterfinals.
They went out after that however.
9. Jan. 1, 2011
Chicharito stole victory for a subpar Manchester United at West Brom to star the year.
He headed in the winner when he was left unmarked from a corner after yet again, coming on as a substitute.
Go to 1:15 in the video for the goal.
8. Jan. 4, 2011
Chicharito became the highest-scoring Mexican in the Premier League with his brilliant flick at Old Trafford against Stoke in January.
7. Jan. 25, 2011
Chicharito scored the equalizing goal at Blackpool after the Tangerines had gone up 2-0, and coming off the bench in the 66th minute, he played a huge role in the Red Devils 3-2 comeback win.
6. Jan. 29, 2011
Chicharito's first FA Cup goal was the 2-1 winner at Southampton, another comeback victory for the Red Devils.
The goal also meant he had scored in all competitions for United in his debut season.
5. March 6, 2011
It was only a consolation goal, but Chicharito scored a late goal at Anfield to take away Pepe Reina's clean sheet on what was an otherwise miserable day for United.
Scoring against Liverpool is always a good stat for a Manchester United player.
4. March 15, 2011
After a goalless draw in the first leg, United intended to turn up the heat against Marseille at Old Trafford.
Chicharito scored two goals from close range, one in the fifth minute and another in the 75th that ended up being crucial, to send the Red Devils into the quarterfinals for the fifth straight year.
3. April 12, 2011
Chicharito scored the opening goal at Old Trafford in the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinal match against Chelsea.
It came right before halftime and all but ended the tie given Wayne Rooney's goal at Stamford Bridge a week earlier.
Manchester United went through 3-1 on aggregate.
2. April 23, 2011
Another one of Chicharito's many late-winners for United came against Everton just five weeks before the end of the season with Chelsea breathing down their necks.
After being denied twice earlier in the game, he headed the winner into the back of the net just six minutes from time to give United a 1-0 victory.
Go to 1:05 for the goal, and again, sorry for the music.
1. May 8, 2011
Chicharito scored against Chelsea 36 seconds into the match at Old Trafford on May 8, 2011, all but sealing Manchester United's record 19th league title.
Nemanja Vidic scored United's second to ensure the victory, a fitting touch as the no-nonsense center-back and the explosive striker were arguably United's two best players all season.
It was Chicharito's 20th goal of the season, making him the first United player to score 20 in his debut year since Ruud van Nistlerooy in 2001-02.
