Arsenal FC Tranfers: Report on a Probable Target Siem De Jong

0 of 7

Writing about Siem De Jong came from a suggestion and recommendation by Gras Gringo

De Jong is a rising star in Holland and who had an excellent season with his team and current Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam. He is being linked with some of the best clubs in Europe, including the Gunners.

I hope it's a good read and please share your thoughts and opinions.

Brief Background

1 of 7

Siem De Jong was born on Jan. 28, 1989, in Aigle, Switzerland to two Dutch parents.

Siem de Jong first started out playing for amateur side DZC'68 and was watched carefully by De Graafschap, whom he joined in 2001. He played there for about four years, until he was snapped up by Ajax in 2005.

De Jong has slowly risen through the ranks at the club, and this season has been his best so far, with the highlight scoring two goals in the decisive game of the season, against challengers Twente and which gave Ajax the title win.

He has scored 15 goals in 43 appearances this season, highlighting his good eye for goal, and he's not even a striker. He has made a total of 113 appearances for Ajax, scoring 32 goals.

Siem de Jong has also risen through the youth ranks with the Dutch national team and has made solitary appearance as a full Dutch international.

Conclusion on the Ratings

4 of 7

Based on his capabilities, he still isn't the finished article, and he probably needs to stay at least a season or two with Ajax, before moving on.

He is a player who's very talented and with huge potential to be a top player. He has a good eye for goal, has good movement and makes good, direct runs. He has been compared to Wesley Sneijder, and their playing styles are very similar.

If he continues to progress at this rate, expect him to be in a top club in one of the best leagues in Europe, sooner rather than later.

What's His Value?

5 of 7

According to, Siem de Jong is valued at around £4.4 million. I doubt that it will take that much for Ajax to let him go.

They'll probably want double that amount, probably around £10 million.

Where Would He Fit in with the Gunners, If He Were to Come?

6 of 7

Siem de Jong is a central midfielder and is better at an attacking sense. He would probably play better in Fabregas's position, as he would have more freedom to roam and show what he has.

He could also, though, challenge for Wilshere or Song's position, which is a defensive midfielder in the 4-3-3 setup. As both like to attack from deep and Siem de Jong is a versatile midfielder, so he could play in that position as well.

But I think he would shine the most as a free-roaming midfielder, Fabregas's position.
