Luis Suarez Transfer Deal Breaks Down: Five Alternatives For Liverpool

Blake ThomasJan 27, 2011

According to some recent reports, Luis Suarez's move from Ajax to Liverpool has broken down. The two clubs have failed to reach an agreement, leaving Liverpool in desperate need of a quality striker.

This isn't official, but if Luis Suarez fails to come to Liverpool, Fernando Torres will be left without someone to help score goals and Liverpool's chances of success will be hurt greatly.

Let's take a look at five alternatives who have been linked with a move to Liverpool.

5. Guillaume Hoarau (Paris St. Germain)

He may not be the best striker in the world, but 26-year-old Guillaume Hoarau could turn out to be a quick fix to Liverpool's striker woes.

Hoarau has proven to be one of the most consistent players in Ligue 1, scoring and assisting goals at an efficient rate.

Fast, powerful, and imposing, he would provide the physical presence which Liverpool have been lacking for quite some time now.

4. Oscar Cardozo (Benfica)

Cardozo isn't the most player, but his eye for goal and blistering left foot put him among Europe's most underrated strikers.

He currently plays for Benfica, where he has managed to notch out an amazing 83 goals in 137 appearances.

The Paraguayan hit man has a dangerously powerful shot, not to mention he is great at heading and taking free kicks.

3. Stefan Kiessling (Bayer Leverkusen)

German striker Stefan Kiessling has been one of the most consistent players in the Bundesliga for a couple of years, however he's just getting the recognition he is deserving of.

The 27-year-old has almost everything Liverpool could ask for in a player.

He is brilliant at heading due to his height, but is also great with the ball at his feet, possessing a tremendous amount of skill for such a large player.

2. Lisandro Lopez (Olmypique Lyon)

Much like the other players on this list, Lisandro Lopez is a talented header of the ball and has a great shot.

However, the one thing the Lopez is most known for is his great speed.

His somewhat small build is made up for with his ability to read a game and his great positioning. He can get in behind the defence and use his natural finishing to score an abundance of goals.

While his style may not be suited to the Premier League, it might be a smart investment for Liverpool

1. Alvaro Negredo (Sevilla)

The final and most likely player to come to Liverpool is Alvaro Negredo.

Currently playing for Sevilla, the 25-year-old striker is arguably one of the most complete players in the world.

He has speed, a good head, great positioning, and great ball control.

He may be wasteful at times, but he is still deadly and has been tipped by many as Liverpool's backup plan if the Luis Suarez deal doesn't work out.
