Premier League: Listing the Most Valuable Player of Every Team, Part 1
They lead from the front, are highly talented and the team is a completely different side when they are on the pitch.Every team has one.A player who can turn the game on its head, a player who can guide the team when the going is tough, a leader. Many times they have the hopes, aspirations and expectations of the fans resting on their shoulder.Whether they are a defender, midfielder or a forward they have the ability to come good in tough situations, to weather the storm which is what has endeared them to the fans so very much. Here is a list of one such player from every team in the Premier League.
Arsenal-Cesc Fabregas
1 of 11
One of the world's best midfielder and the captain of the Arsenal side,Fabregas is a true leader on the pitch.Arsenal are a completely different side when their inspirational captain is in the side.Despite being only 23, Fabregas is the fulcrum of the Arsenal team and Arsenal seem to be a different team psychologically and even in their playing with him in the team.He brings vision, creativity and an intricate understanding of Arsenal's passing game displaying maturity that belies his age.But what makes Fabregas so valuable to the Arsenal side is the mental edge he gives them on the pitch.During his absence, Arsenal always seem to lack a leader, someone who can take up that responsibility and with Fabregas in the team they are much tougher. This coupled with his great goalscoring ability and the knack of creating goals out of nowhere makes him indispensable to this young, maturing Arsenal side.
Manchester United-Nemanja Vidic
2 of 11
Manchester United's start to the season has been unimpressive and continue to play mediocre football. But if there is one positive to take from the start of the season it has been Vidic's performance at the heart of the United defense.United's defense has been well below par and have been ravaged with injuries to key players.Despite this Vidic has stood tall and has led his team by example. He has also managed to get on the scoresheet thrice this season.Vidic has put in strong, aggressive, no-nonsense performance and has been a standout performer this season. His promotion as team captain is just testimony of his growing stature among teammates.Leading from front,if United are to mount a serious title challenge,Vidic is the right man to be in charge.
Manchester City-Carlos Tevez
3 of 11
Its reached such a situation at the Eastlands that if any man can score for City, inspire them it seems to be the little Argentinian-Carlos Tevez.Appointed as club captain,Tevez has scored 7 of City's 15 league goals this season and set up another three. In the absence of Tevez, City have looked limp, lacked creativity and seem to lack the spark.Despite spending close to 110 million in strengthening the squad, City seem to lack a leader save for Tezez and although this increases the pressure on him it highlights his value to the club and Tevez is thriving as the leader.
Chelsea-John Terry
4 of 11
Many might have expected to see the likes of Frank Lampard or Didier Drogba on this list but the reason I chose Terry was because Chelsea have too much quality at front and can cope with the loss of their attacking players.John Terry is the leader, the heartbeat of this Chelsea side. The side will always look incomplete without his passion, effort and leadership on the pitch.Chelsea lack the depth at the back and without Terry pulling the defense, organising it and dictating play Chelsea's defense will struggle. The recent match against Sunderland highlighted his value and importance to this Chelsea side.A fit and firing Terry is essential to the success of this Chelsea team.
Liverpool-Steven Gerrard
5 of 11
If there ever was a man who could lead back Liverpool to its glory days-it has to be Steven Gerrard.Gerrard has continued to put in tireless in the Liverpool midfield and despite Liverpool's current predicament, Gerrard remains committed to Liverpool's cause putting in hard working and inspirational performances.A bright spark in whats turning out to be another season to forget, Gerrard's importance and leadership abilities can be understood by watching the Liverpool vs Napoli match. After his introduction they were a transformed team and he managed to inspire confidence in the entire team.Thats the effect he possess on the entire team.He is capable of galvanising the entire team.Besides his role as a leader and inspirational figure,Gerrard continues to score goals and he looks most likely player to create a chance. His role in the Liverpool squad is monumental and if he ever decided to leave it will leave a void that will be very hard to ever fill.
Everton-Tim Cahill
6 of 11
This was an extremely close call between Arteta and Cahill. In the end I chose Cahill because I felt that on the whole he offered more to the club and the team.Cahill as a habit of scoring key goals and is an extremely hardworking player when on the pitch. One of the best headers of the ball if not the best in the Premier League, Cahill has consistently scored atleast 10 goals per season. But what makes him such an asset to the club is his role as an utility player. He can play as a striker if called for and considering Everton's injury problem he has been called into that role often and each time he has performed admirably.
Tottenham-Gareth Bale
7 of 11
This may seem as premature to many considering that he has established himself only in the last one year. But such has been the impact of the Welsh wizard that he has already established himself as one of the world's best wingers.Blessed with searing pace, endless stamina and to top it all of a pin point and devastating cross that tears the defense into shreds, Bale has been leading Tottenham to victory on many occasions scoring some fantastic and vital goals. The strategy of the entire team at times seems to be to put the ball at the feet of Bale.Such is the trust and faith is teammates have on him.And he does not disappoint.Bale adds the vital creativity and spark to this Tottenham side and they will need his exploits for the rest of the season if they are to enter the UCL for the second year running.
West Ham United-Scott Parker
8 of 11
If one watches West Ham play, its possible to get the feeling that only Parker is interested in saving the club from relegation.Such is the value of the player that West Ham were willing to sell their entire squad for the right fee save for their talismanic midfielder, Scott Parker. The heartbeat and driving force of the West Ham side,Parker has been putting in tireless performances at the heart of their midfield.Scoring great goals and setting up others, Parker is essential to the fortunes of West Ham and the sale of their most valuable asset will see them take another step towards relegation. His industrious and combative approach makes him invaluable to the Hammers.
Blackpool-Charlie Adam
9 of 11
Many expected Blackpool to return to the Championship after just one season in the top flight. But they are putting up a remarkable fight and are entertaining football fans with some majestic, attacking and free flowing football. One of the main reason behind this has to be Charlie Adam.He seems to orchestrate any attack of Blackpool that threatens.Playing some fluid one-touch football, Adam has shown that with the right intent unlocking any defense is possible.Captain of this spirited team, Adam has been leading from the front and if Blackpool and Adams can continue their great start to the season, the Tangerines will be spending several more seasons in the Premier League.
Bolton Wanderers-Kevin Davies
10 of 11
Bolton's captain and hitman, Kevin Davies is the epitome of a hardworking striker who gets stuck in your face and never backs down from a challenge.Davies relishes the physical side of the game and although many consider him to be rash and over-aggressive, his fantastic work rate and effort on pitch makes him indispensable to his side. His effort makes him an inspiration to his team and his love for the physical side makes him an aerial threat. His exploits in the air has provided many assists to his teammates throughout his career. The match against Tottenham was perfect example of the fact that aggression can reap rich dividends. With Kevin Davies as captain of this side, Bolton look to be heading for an extremely bright future.
