Since the departure of Luis Garcia in August 2007, Liverpool have been inimitably struggling to find a genuine quality left winger (right, too) who can threaten the opposing defense and keep assailing the crosses with deadly pace, pin point accuracy and, most important, consistency.
Between August 2007 and August 2010, Millions have been wasted, not invested, on mediocre players for one reason or another: Be it lack of funds available or Liverpool's lost of charm to attract world class players.
However, the club's copiously documented wing problem seems not to walk alone just yet.
So, after failing to sign a back up striker and a winger in summer, at last Roy Hodgson seems to be aware of their need in the squad and has made clear of that. If reports are to be believed then he would be handed over a healthy funds of about £30 millions plus player sales money for the winter transfer window.
For the last month or so, quite a few wingers have been linked with a possible winter move to the Reds: Ashley Young, Charles N'Zogbia, Juan Mata, Balazs Dzsudzsak and Arda Turan are some of them.
Arda Turan, perhaps, is one of those players who has been linked with a possible move to the Anfield outfit for over a year now. He is a complete balanced winger who could be just what Liverpool needs right now.
Here are those reasons why he could be the perfect solution for the club.
Proven Talent and Skills:
The Turkish golden boy is a sensational left winger who currently plays for the Turkish giants Galatasaray. The right footed winger is the youth product of Galatasaray and has been there since the age of 12.
He was made the skipper of the club in the beginning of 2009-10 season and is highly tipped to be the next Gheorghe Hagi: The Romanian legend who played for the same club and with whom Turan shares his jersey, No. 10.
The highly rated wing wizard is exceptionally talented and mainly known for his ball control, speed and mazy runs from the left wing to tear through the defenders. Being able to play with both the feet, on both the wings and also behind the striker would give Liverpool an advantage with his adaptability on the pitch.
Turan is a great dribbler with the ability to beat full backs at will.
Because of his adaptability to play as a winger and an attacking midfielder, Turan would fit into any new manager's regime should Liverpool decide to depart with Roy Hodgson.
Age, Performance and Long Term Future:
At the age of 23, Turan has 40 national caps for Turkey and has scored 10 goals in the making. He was the brightest young player in Euro 2008 and his four goals in 11 appearances helped Turkey reach semi finals of the Euro 2008.
In the Turkish League, Turan scores one goal almost every four games and has the assist to games ratio of 1:2.
In his breakthrough season of 2009-10, he had a total of 11 goals and a staggering 25 assists. As a winger, his ability to provide one assist every second game makes him lethal on the wings and will be profligate useful for Liverpool, where Fernando Torres often finds the lack of support from wide.
Despite being one of the Europe's hottest properties Turan, would cost in the region of £12 Million. Ashley Young or Juan Mata, who are in the same quality as Turan, would not cost less than £18 to £20 Million.
If Liverpool wants to challenge even for the top four spot this season, they will have to start buying quality players.
One can also argue that Liverpool have some cheaper options like Charles N'Zogbia or SWP to the £12 Millions rated Turan. But, if you keep doing the same thing, you keep getting the same result.
Liverpool will have to change that in order to improve the squad and lift their game to the next level.
Love For Liverpool:
What massive difference can that "love" make in a players play? Why don't we see Fernando Torres play with the same passion and drive for Spain as he does for Liverpool? Why Steven Gerrard brings that extra energy and vibe in his game?
These players are absolutely in mad love with their club, which naturally brings out the adrenaline off their veins and lifts their game to a whole different level.
In the past, some 30 years ago, Liverpool dominated the English and European football because the players were wearing the Liverpool shirt "inside" them and putting extra effort in their game because they loved their club and wanted to play for the club just for the sake of love, not for money.
Just recently Turan shared his love for the club and issued a come-and-get-me plea. He said: "As I always mention, Liverpool attracts me because of their tradition. In Europe, I am a Liverpool supporter so if I go to play in Europe I'd like to play for them"
Just Like Fernando Torres, Arda understands the feelings and emotions attached to the club; most importantly, he carries that respect for the club which should be considered as one of the important criterias when selecting a player.
Perhaps Turan is waiting for Liverpool to make an official bid for him to fulfil his dream of playing for the Mighty Reds. A player can not do anything more than this to show that he wants to play for Liverpool.
Liverpool's Emiliano Insua is on a season long loan to Galatasaray which could also help bringing the dazzling star to Anfield.
The European cup-tied issue may not allow Liverpool to play Turan in Europa League this year. However, the club's prime focus is to finish in top four in the Premier League, said Roy Hodgson, and with help of Turan's dynamic overall attacking play Liverpool could definitely improve their chance to do so.
Combining all of these factors and comparing Turan with other options we can say that in Arda Turan Liverpool have found an extremely balanced, talented, versatile and attacking winger cum playmaker who could just be the perfect match to resolve the issues on either flanks and add some flair to it.
