2010 World Cup Final: Why Spain Could Win the FIFA World Cup

Andrew JordanJul 9, 2010

After a spectacular World Cup run, Spain now find themselves just one win away from becoming World Cup champions as they face the Netherlands, with the winner getting their first ever World Cup title.

With some fantastic players in David Villa, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Carles Puyol, and Iker Casillas (just to name a few!) on their squad, they are the most talented squad in this World Cup.

Now, with the World Cup final around the corner, here are some of the reasons why Spain could win the World Cup.

Reason One: David Villa

A top contender for the Golden Ball, David Villa has been nothing short of spectacular in this World Cup, as he has already scored five goals.

Since Spain's loss to Switzerland, Villa has carried the team and has helped unite Spain with some world-class finishing and terrific play in the field.

With David Villa on top of his game, it becomes nearly impossible to beat Spain.

Reason Two: Their fantastic midfield

But what would Spain and David Villa be without their fantastic midfield in this World Cup?

With Xavi, Andres Iniesta, and Xabi Alonso (among others) all playing on the top of their game in South Africa, Spain have continued to show the world how great they are as a unit.

Of course, these players are the exact reason why they are in this World Cup final.

Reason Three: Most Talented Side

Without question, Spain have the most talented players in this World Cup.

Every position on the field is covered with a world-class player, who are all able to work extremely well together.

These players can beat anyone in the world if they are to get into a "track meet" and will look to complete their résumés with a World Cup title.

Reason Four: A Great Defense

In Spain's back four, they have four fantastic players in Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique, Carles Puyol, and Joan Capdevila.

These four players have been absolutely spectacular in this World Cup, as they have done everything to stop opposing attacks.

Along with that, they have not conceded a goal since Spain's final group stage match against Chile.

Reason Five: Iker Casillas

In order to win the World Cup, you always need to have an incredible goalkeeper in the back.

Spain have Iker Casillas, who has been marvelous throughout the World Cup, as he has only allowed two goals.

With San Iker in the net, Spain are almost impossible to beat with one of the best goalkeepers in the world on top form.

Reason Six: Ability to Hold Possession Throughout the match

Throughout this World Cup, Spain has been able to hold possession for a large portion of the match against all of their opponents.

In each match, Spain has been able to do this, as they allow their attack to patiently move forward before getting a great scoring opportunity.

By limiting clubs' possession time, Spain also allow their defense to get much less action than most defenses and also limit scoring opportunities.

Reason Seven: This Is Their Time

Throughout this World Cup, the media and fans have all agreed that this is Spain's time to win the World Cup.

They have had too much disappointment in the past, and they will finally get over the hump in this World Cup final.

With such talented players, if they don't win the World Cup now, they will never win the World Cup.

Now on July 11, we will get to see if Spain will win this World Cup with their great side against the Dutch in what should be a fantastic World Cup final.

Of course, the winner of that final will deservedly be called World Cup champions for the first time in their respective nation's history.
