Arsenal Transfer Prospects: Should Wenger Pay £20 Million Mesut Ozil?

Callum D'SouzaJun 17, 2010

After an outstanding performance for Germany in their opening game against a doughty Australian outfit. Mesut Ozil has quickly attracted the attention of a number of big name clubs including the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City.

The 21 year old has been an integral part of German giants Werder Bremen for a few years, and is now a firm favourite for a move to the Premier League, its just a matter of where.

He's been on Arsenal's radar for a while now but a deal has failied to materialize. Ozil's value has risen considerably. It is believed the German side have lodged a £20 million price tag on the midfield starlet.

Usually this amount would cause Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to lose interest but with such a cloud over captain and midfield maestro Cesc Fabregas's future, Wenger could seduce Ozil with the transfer sum that Barcelona could offer Fabregas. It is estimated that the La Liga kings may offer around £35 million for the Arsenal dynamo.

This would enable Wenger to make a clean swoop for Ozil. The German midfield boast similar traits to Fabregas. He is blessed with an incisive passing range, impressive intelligence, and damaging speed. Ozil would be an adequate replacement for the Arsenal captain as Wenger style of play would benefit the 21 year old's playing style.

However, the £20 million price tag located on the Werder Bremen man is unappealing and it is no hidden fact Wenger would prefer to target a cheaper midfielder. But Ozil is only 21 with a glistening future and it is no secret he has the potential to become the next huge thing, possibly bigger than Fabregas.

However this all depends if that man departs the Emirates.
