2010 FIFA World Cup: Real Madrid Players Participating in the Cup

Jon SainzJun 13, 2010

You could build a whole team with players from Real Madrid players and former players who are playing in this World Cup.

You would also have your pick for the coach, as up to four former Real Madrid coaches are in this World Cup.

You could almost build a starting 11 with former players; the only problem would be that they're mostly strikers.

Oddly enough there are more former players (11) than current players (nine). There are also a lot of names that are said to be going to Real Madrid in the future (eight).

The coaches are:

Fabio Capello (England)

Vicente del Bosque (Spain)

Radomir Antic (Serbia)

Carlos Queiroz (Portugal)

All of them, except Queiroz, were let go by Real Madrid when they were on the top. Capello won La Liga, but was not renewed (twice). Del Bosque won everything possible, and Antic was fired while the team was first in La Liga.

The players should be known by most, but still here they are:

Higuain (Argentina)

Kaka (Brazil)

Van der Vaart (Netherlands)

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)

Pepe (Portugal)

Iker Casillas (Spain)

Raul Albiol (Spain)

Alvaro Arbeloa (Spain)

Sergio Ramos (Spain)

Xabi Alonso (Spain)

The biggest group is the one with former Real Madrid players, which includes a couple of surprises.

Walter Samuel (Argentina)

Gabriel Heinze (Argentina)

Julio Baptista (Brazil)

Robinho (Brazil)

Samuel Eto'o (Cameroon)

Nicolas Anelka (France)

Fabio Cannavaro (Italy)

Wesley Sneijder (Netherlands)

Arjen Robben (Netherlands)

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Netherlands)

There are also two former players who are there as part of the federation, and not as players: David Beckham (England) and Fernando Hierro (Spain).

There are always rumours about who will go where in the summer, and up to eight names that have been linked with Real Madrid are in South Africa right now. Here they are:

Angel di Maria (Argentina)

Daniele de Rossi (Italy)

Maicon (Brazil)

Aleksandar Kolarov (Serbia)

Steven Gerrard (England)

Javi Martinez (Spain)

Jesus Navas (Spain)

David Silva (Spain)
