Arsenal Transfer Prospects: Could Blackburn Trio Be the Answer for Wenger?

Callum D'SouzaJun 3, 2010

After successfully securing the signature of Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh, Arsenal fans are hoping more big name transfers will follow. Rumors are fiercely swinging about who may be on their way in and who may be on their way out.

Arsenal suffered a some what disappointing season in 2009/2010, which ensured fans and critics began voicing their disapproval at the lack of signings Wenger has initiated. However, Wenger has his watchful eye out, awaiting the chance to sign some quality talent.

Three signings that would help fill all missing voids are Blackburn trio Paul Robinson, Steven N'Zonzi, and Christopher Samba.

1. Paul Robinson

The English keeper had a strong campaign for the Rovers, which saw him receive a place in England's World Cup squad. Arsenal's keepers were woeful last campaign with the first choice Manuel Almunia and deputy Lukasz Fabianski making a host of vital errors between them.

Arsenal require a keeper who is decisive and safe and can handle the pressure of the bigger, better sides in the Premier League and Europe. Robinson fits the bill well. Boasting experience, leadership, and form, Paul Robinson could be the answer to Wenger's goalkeeping prayers.

2. Steven N'Zonzi

Blackburn Rovers Player of the Year (as chosen by fans), Steven N'Zonzi enjoyed a stellar début season in the Premier League. The imposing defensive midfield was somewhat of a rock in the midfield, showing tenacious strength as well as some impressive ball skills.

The 21-year-old is set for a big future and with Arsenal in the market for another decent midfield N'Zonzi would be a valuable addition. At 6'3", the Frenchman would add much-needed height and power into the Arsenal midfield. Furthermore, his versatility to play in the defensive line would also be an asset.

The signing of the former Amiens SC midfielder would help build pressure on the likes of Abou Diaby and Denilson to perform better or risk losing their places in the Arsenal squad.

3. Christopher Samba

The colossal Congolese defender would be a solid replacement for William Gallas, who is likely to depart the Emirates in the coming months. The 6'4" giant would bring height and depth to the Arsenal backline.

Blessed with aggression, power, strength, and leadership credentials, the Blackburn center half would ensure Arsenal boast a powerful back line.

Could the Blackburn trio be just what Wenger needs? It is unlikely to cost a huge amount of money and it would see the three prime positions strengthened which ultimately could result in a trophy-winning Arsenal.
