English and Spanish Teams Ban Twitter Use During 2010 World Cup

Roberto Alvarez-GallosoMay 29, 2010

The FA (Football Association) of England has prohibited its players from using Twitter during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The Spanish National football/soccer team is also banning the use of Twitter during the event.

The Spanish team has informed its players Cesc Fabregas (who is a midfielder for Aresnal) and Fernando Torres (who is a striker for Liverpool).

The banย may have beenย in response to posts in Twitter by Jozy Altidore and Darren Bent during their games in the English League. The principle motive may have been that Twitter and Facebook could be a distraction during the 2010 World Cup.

The FA has announced that they will offer their opinion about the tournaments via their official webpage. In an era of increasing technology and sports, it is a great idea to ba the use of Twitter and Facebook especially when the teams are in South Africa to win the trophy.

The possibility of a distraction for team players is great especially in sporting events of this nature. No one can allow distraction when the highest amount of concentration has to be in the sporting event.

It is hoped that the US Soccer Team (if it has not done so) were to take extra measures concerning Twitter and the 2010 World Cup. The last thing a team needs is distractions during an important event
