Sudip BaguiMay 19, 2010

Spanish La Liga champions Barcelona have officially signed prolific Spanish striker David Villa from Valencia for €40 million.

Villa has signed a four-year deal with an option of an extra year after the four years are complete.

Villa has been the Catalan giant's first summer signing of the year. David Villa has scored 107 goals in 166 league matches for Valencia. Despite playing alongside such international stars as Fernando Torres on the national team, Villa has been able to maintain a consistent scoring ability.

Last season, Villa was the fourth highest scorer in La Liga with 21 goals.

With the prolific hitman's arrival, the futures of Thierry Henry and Zlatan Ibrahimovic remain in even more doubt. Henry looks set to head to the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer after the World Cup.

While Joan Laporta has stated that he was satisfied with Ibrahimovic this season, doubt about his future with the club still remains.

Italian giants Juventus have been linked with the Swedish striker.

The Spanish striker's arrival has also potentially brought the extremely potent Barca attack to a new level, something that was thought impossible at the beginning of the season.

Villa is a proven striker in La Liga. He has consistently scored with every team he's played with, and his style of play complements Xavi's playmaking skills.

Not only that, but Villa is familiar with many of the Catalan players due to the fact that many of the Catalans play on the Spanish national team.

David Villa's playing style also seems to complement Lionel Messi's style of play.

Barcelona look set to take their offense to a whole new level, and with the prolific attacking duo of Lionel Messi and David Villa, Barcelona looks to break new records on the offensive front.

Real Madrid are going to need something special to beat this.
