Mexico Barely Defeats Senegal in Friendly Game

Roberto Alvarez-GallosoMay 11, 2010

Mexico faced Senegal in a preliminary friendly game before the start of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The game took place on May 10, 2010 in Soldier’s Field in Chicago, Illinois before a sold out crowd of more than 60,000 people.

While the game was an improvement for Mexico following its goalless draw, it was still mediocre since the team lacked a sense of direction and consistency in its play. The Mexican National Football/Soccer team dropped some of its passes and had problems with the lines.

The attempts of Javier Hernandez and others to score were rebuffed by the Senegalese goalie Cheikh N’ Diaye. The attempts at substitution did not improve the situation. Fernando Gomis and Alberto Medina worsened the scenario by receiving yellow cards for unprofessional conduct. The only exception to the rule was when Alberto Medina scored a direct kick past the goalie to score the only goal of the game.

Golden Boot Race is Chaos 🍿

While Mexico was unable to dominate the field, Senegal was unable to mount a defense and the players appeared to wander aimlessly. Alphah Ibrahim Bah and Djibril Sidibe received yellow cards for accidentally pushing two of the Mexican players to the ground.

Cheikh N’Diaye was an exception to the rule in the Senegalese team since he was able to deflect attempts by the Mexicans to score (with the exception of Medina). Regardless, the game itself could have been a lot better than what it was.

Mexico has to improve its game plan in preparation for the upcoming match against Angola. I am willing to predict a Mexican win with the same results or a loss if there is no improvement. For the information of the reader, Mexico is currently ahead of Senegal and Angola in the FIFA Coca Cola Ranking.
