Manchester United vs. Arsenal: Team News, Preview, Live Stream and TV Info

Tom SunderlandNov 17, 2016

Manchester United can climb to within three points of fourth-placed Arsenal in the Premier League table if they manage to beat the Gunners on Saturday at Old Trafford.

The pair of Premier League giants open the Week 12 schedule in Saturday's early kick-off, where Jose Mourinho's men will be hoping to use their win over Swansea City a fortnight ago as a platform to rebuild their form.

Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger and his charges are hoping to extend a 16-match unbeaten streak that stretches back to August's season-opening defeat at home to Liverpool, although two draws in their last three league games has slowed momentum.

Team News

Despite early speculation he could miss the Gunners clash, MailOnline's Jack Gaughan reported on Wednesday that Rooney may face Arsenal, despite missing Tuesday's draw with Spain with a knee injury.

Rooney faced criticism this week after allegedly celebrating last Friday's 3-0 win over Scotland too fiercely, per the Sun's Jake Ryan and Amy JonesAccording to the report, Rooney "could hardly speak" after gatecrashing a wedding reception on Saturday, and ESPN's Alex Shaw questioned whether the Red Devils captain should line up even if recovered from his knee injury:

Ibrahimovic picked up his fifth yellow card of the season in the 3-1 win over Swansea, while Eric Bailly continues his recovery from a knee injury. Antonio Valencia recently underwent surgery on a fractured arm.

That means Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo are in contention to start at centre-back, with Chris Smalling also a concern, but the Daily Mail's Adam Crafton added Marouane Fellaini and left-back Luke Shaw as potential doubts:

Valencia's absence means Matteo Darmian looks likely to slot in at right-back, while Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial could be eyeing starts with Ibrahimovic unavailable for selection.

Arsenal's injury concerns are far fewer in number, and they were happy to see Alexis Sanchez come through the international break fit after he starred in a recent 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Uruguay:

However, Hector Bellerin is expected to be out for four weeks following an ankle injury picked up against Tottenham Hotspur, as Wenger noted in his pre-match press conference. Carl Jenkinson could take the Spaniard's spot.

ESPN FC's Ben Dinnery reported Santi Cazorla is "unlikely" to line up against United, however, meaning a combination of Granit Xhaka, Francis Coquelin or Mohamed Elneny could start in midfield.

Sanchez will probably keep his place up front as Olivier Giroud's search for a first league start this season lingers on, with Theo Walcott, Mesut Ozil and Alex Iwobi in place to provide ammunition from just behind.

Predicted Manchester United lineup (4-3-3): David De Gea; Matteo Darmian, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind; Marouane Fellaini, Michael Carrick, Paul Pogba; Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford, Wayne Rooney.

Predicted Arsenal lineup (4-2-3-1): Petr Cech; Carl Jenkinson, Nacho Monreal, Shkodran Mustafi, Laurent Koscielny; Granit Xhaka, Francis Coquelin; Theo Walcott, Alex Iwobi, Mesut Ozil; Alexis Sanchez.

A great deal of focus will be placed on the strikers for both outfits come Saturday, with Rashford the logical option to come into Mourinho's XI in place of the suspended Ibrahimovic, who netted a brace in his last outing.

The Gunners know Rashford's powers all too well, considering he scored twice against them upon making his Premier League debut earlier this year, and Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News argued he's deserving of his chance:

For Arsenal, meanwhile, the emphasis in attack is placed on Sanchez, who recently scored twice for Chile en route to a 3-1 win over Uruguay, after which he's had to endure a long-haul flight from Santiago back to England.

Wenger will hope those travels don't result in any lingering after-effects, and Chile manager Juan Antonio Pizzi hailed his forward's class after his bulldozing display against Uruguay, per the London Evening Standard's Vaishali Bhardwaj:

"

Individuals speak for themselves. Alexis is among the best players in the world.

[But] I am more in favour of emphasising the strengths of the group. And it is what allowed us to turn the game.

We value individuality, but I think today the great merit of reversing the outcome is based solely on the collective.

Everyone understands how to solve things by doing it together. Sometimes a few stand out as Claudio, Eduardo, Alexis...

"

Rooney's knee concern means he's a doubt to start on Saturday, and while his experience would be valuable in the absence of Ibrahimovic, many might argue Mourinho should place his faith in younger options.

The Gunners are unbeaten away from home this season, and while United have failed to win in each of their last two home league matches, there's nothing like a tense clash against Arsenal to inspire Mourinho's men.
