Premier League Results: 2016 EPL Week 8 Scores, Table and Top Sunday Scorers
Southampton moved up to eighth in the Premier League table on Sunday thanks to a comfortable 3-1 victory over Burnley at St. Mary’s.
Charlie Austin notched his third and fourth goals of the season to move up the division scoring charts, while Nathan Redmond was also on the scoresheet for the Saints.
In the day’s earlier game, Watford emerged victorious in a tense tussle with newly promoted Middlesbrough, as a stunning strike from Jose Holebas earned the Hornets a 1-0 victory.

Southampton haven’t quite hit top gear in 2016/17 just yet, but their performance in Sunday’s victory over Burnley suggested that everything is starting to click into place.
The 3-1 scoreline didn’t do Claude Puel’s side justice, because if it wasn’t for a string of excellent saves from Burnley stopper Tom Heaton, the Saints could have been out of sight.
The former Manchester United keeper twice thwarted Austin with tremendous saves in the opening half, but a scrappy passage of play from a corner allowed the English striker to bundle the ball home and start Southampton’s party on 52 minutes.

Nine minutes later, the Saints were 2-0 up. More poor defending from Burnley at a corner saw the ball break to Redmond 12 yards from goal, and he made no mistake by slamming home smartly.
NBC Sports’ Joe Prince-Wright was one of many singing Redmond’s praises after he found the net:
Austin then doubled his tally with a well-taken penalty on 66 minutes to haunt his former employers Burnley once again. In fact, according to Opta Joe, Austin’s record against the Clarets since departing the club is rather impressive:
There was still time for Sam Vokes to pull a goal back for Burnley with a penalty of his own, but it was too little, too late for Sean Dyche’s men.
The Saints, however, go marching on. And with more performances like Sunday’s, they’ll enjoy a fruitful season. The Times’ Henry Winter gave his two cents on their excellent attacking display:
Watford also put together an impressive performance on Sunday, as they battled hard to take three points from the Riverside thanks to a 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough.
Middlesbrough came into the match without a win in six matches in all competitions, yet they started the better side against the Hornets and did all of the early pressing.
Still, chances were few and far between for either side, and it was one of those games that would only be separated by a moment of brilliance.
On the 54-minute mark, it duly arrived courtesy of Holebas. Boro cleared the ball only as far as the defender, who marauded onto it and smashed it into the top corner beyond the despairing Victor Valdes.
Bleacher Report UK jested on how the explosive goal came out of nothing:
The win lifted Mazzarri’s side up to 10th in the Premier League table, one point adrift of fellow Sunday victors Southampton.
Although just eight games into the 2016/17 Premier League season, it’s already looking tight throughout the table.
At the top, both Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur dropped points on Saturday, allowing Arsenal to swoop in and take second place.
Meanwhile, hapless Sunderland remain the only team in the division without a victory to their name; two points from eight games looks rather bleak for David Moyes and Co.
Liverpool do, indeed, have a chance to go top of the table on Monday night with a heavy victory over bitter rivals Manchester United at Anfield. The world’s eyes will be on Merseyside for what’s set to be another fascinating Premier League encounter.
