Rory MarsdenSep 21, 2016

Barcelona and Brazil legend Ronaldinho is set to return to on-field action for the first time in more than a year when he turns out for Mexican third division club Cinco Estrellas.

Per Calciomercato, the 36-year-old playmaker has agreed to play a friendly match for the Monterrey-based Cinco Estrellas on December 3.

The club announced the news on their Facebook page:

Ronaldinho called time on his spell with Brazilian outfit Fluminense last September, just over two months after penning an 18-month deal with the club.

He has since been unattached, but he recently stated his intention to play one more season before retiring from football for good, per Sport's Albert Masnou

A FIFA World Cup, UEFA Champions League and multiple domestic title winner, Ronaldinho was also voted FIFA's World Player of the Year twice and won the Ballon d'Or in 2005.

It has been quite some time since the end of the most fruitful spell of his career—his five years at the Camp Nou between 2003 and 2008—but Ronaldinho still generates much adulation when he plays.

He may not be the player he was, but his style, charisma and exuberance are undeniable, and his appearance for Cinco Estrellas will be highly anticipated by many far away from Monterrey.
