Liverpool moved to address their injury crisis on Tuesday by announcing the loan signing of defender Steven Caulker from Queens Park Rangers:

Caulker had spent the last six months on loan at Southampton but had struggled to make a positive impact:

Caulker must have impressed Klopp - his last game for Southampton was 6-1 thrashing in League Cup....

Caulker's last game? The 6-1 loss to Liverpool. He and Van Dijk were both atrocious. This truly is a desperation move. #LFC #SaintsFC

He'll join up with his new team in time to face Arsenal on Wednesday:

Caulker has joined in time to be part of the #LFC squad to play #AFC

Caulker signs for Liverpool in time to play against Arsenal. Wenger's ridiculous luck continues. Couldn't make it up.

Neutral fans were confused and amused in equal measure by the surprise signing:

Brilliant from Klopp: sign a player so bad it makes your existing players look good

— Jack Lang (@jacklang) January 12, 2016

"You can't slag off Lovren! He's only our third-worst defender!" Clever

But Liverpool fans weren't particularly impressed:

Caulker really? Much rather have Kolo Toure.

Every single person involved with recruitment at Liverpool should be sacked if they sign Caulker. Garbage.
