Arsenal vs. Bayern Munich: Key Arsene Wenger and Aaron Ramsey Presser Comments

Christopher SimpsonOct 19, 2015

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirmed Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Petr Cech will face Bayern Munich when he addressed the media in a pre-match press conference on Monday ahead of Tuesday's crucial Champions League match.

According to the London Evening Standard's James Olley, Wenger said the attacking duo of Sanchez and Ozil will be fit to start the match:

So, too, will Cech, who was replaced by David Ospina in Arsenal's disastrous defeats to Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos.

It seems Wenger was prepared to name the Colombian once again despite his gaffe gifting the Greek side a goal in his last outing, but the stopper is reportedly injured, per the Daily Mirror's Darren Lewis:

All three players will be vital to Arsenal's chances in the match as they take on the might of the Bundesliga champions, who currently possess a 100 per cent win record in the league with 29 goals scored and just four conceded.

Despite Bayern's incredible form and his own side's struggles in Europe, Wenger remains confident his side can grab a much needed win at the Emirates. According to the Daily Mirror's Ben Burrows, he said: "We could be suspected of not taking the first two Champions League games seriously enough. We have beaten Bayern teams at least as good as the one tomorrow."

The Gunners will be facing Bayern in the Champions League for the fifth time since 2013, having twice been knocked out over two legs against them.

One of their last four encounters did end in a 2-0 win for Arsenal, though in a sense, they were under far less pressure having been thrashed in the home leg 3-1.

That will not be the case this time around, with the Gunners in serious jeopardy of missing out on a place in the knockout stages and ending up in a Europa League slog thanks to their two abject defeats, much to the displeasure of Arsenal's frustrated fans.

Midfielder Aaron Ramsey acknowledges their need to get the supporters behind them with a morale-boosting win, per Burrows: "We will be looking to get the crowd back on our side with a win in this competition."

A win would certainly restore some belief among the Emirates faithful, who are growing increasingly irate at their team's inability to compete with Europe's elite.

Comprehensive Premier League wins over Leicester City, Manchester United and Watford have somewhat eased the pressure on Wenger, but a humiliation at the hands of Bayern would quickly undo those weeks of good work.

At the very least, a strong performance is needed, or calls for Wenger to be sacked will likely renew in earnest once again.
