Netherlands vs. Iceland: Date, Time and Live Stream for Euro 2016 Qualifier

Tom SunderlandSep 2, 2015

Iceland can take a giant step toward sealing their Euro 2016 berth on Thursday when they make the trip to Amsterdam, where they'll seek to hand Netherlands coach Danny Blind a horror start to his Oranje tenure.Ā

The Euro 2016 qualifier will be Blind's first match in charge of the team since taking over from Guus Hiddink in July, and the stakes are incredibly high as the 2014 World Cup finalists hope to rescue their Group A hopes.

Icelandic management duo Lars Lagerback and Heimir Hallgrimsson travel to the Dutch capital two points clear at the pool's summit knowing that victory on Thursday will dramatically boost the qualification campaign.

Iceland Hunting Dutch Double

(L-R) Kari Arnason of Iceland, Nigel de Jong of Holland, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar of Holland, Kolbeinn Sighorsson of Iceland, Leroy Fer of Holland, Robin van Persie of Holland during the EURO 2016 qualifying match between Iceland and Netherlands on October 13,

After claiming their first win over the Netherlands last October, Iceland will be in the mood to ensure the high spirits don't end there when they travel to the Amsterdam Arena.

Gylfi Sigurdsson scored a brace to give his side a big nudge en route to that 2-0 triumph, and the BBC's John Bennett praised the Swansea City midfielder's fine form in last weekend's 2-1 win over Manchester United:

The Dutch can only hope Iceland's primary playmaker isn't in as free-scoring a mood as he was in Reykjavik 11 months ago, lest they surrender a damning double to their Group A foes.

While Iceland are five points clear of the Oranje, they sit just two points ahead of the Czech Republic, and defeat in Amsterdam this week could yet see them fall from the perch they've deserved up until now.

There should be goals for the visitors, too, as Goal's Phil Kitromilides attests to Iceland having scored in their last 13 consecutive games, giving them some hope of success in foreign territory.

Never before has the Nordic island been so close to qualifying for a European Championship, and the coaching team of Lagerback and Hallgrimsson will be desperate to see that dream endure this week.

Netherlands' Qualification Turning Point

After Hiddink resigned after a record of five defeats in his last 10 games at the helm, the Netherlands chose to promote former assistant Blind to the head position earlier this year.

And theĀ Telegraph's Mark Ogden confirms Blind is taking no prisoners in his new role, opting to shake up the order with Arjen Robben elected captain ahead of Robin van Persie:

It may be the right decision after Van Persie moved to Fenerbahce this summer in search of more assured first-team minutes, but it shows Blind won't be pandering to favourites of the previous regime.

In fact, Dutch Football claims Van Persie may even be benched for Thursday's tie as Blind opts to place his faith in Schalke's Klaas-Jan Huntelaar instead:

A win over Iceland this week could, depending on other results, bring the Oranje back to within two points of top spot in Group A and revive what chance they have left to win the pool.

Blind's appointment may prove to be precisely what was needed in that regard, and redemption over Iceland would be the ideal way to announce the turning of a new page for the Netherlands.
