England vs. Slovenia: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Tom SunderlandNov 14, 2014

England are yet to drop a single point in their qualification campaign to Euro 2016, but Slovenia make their way to Wembley on Saturday in the hope they can upset the odds.

In fact, Roy Hodgson's Three Lions are yet to even concede a goal in their three qualifiers, a feat only matched by Iceland and Croatia in the competition thus far.

Second in the standings and just three points behind England, Slovenia will see this as their chance to shorten the gap between them and their would-be superiors. Preview and viewing information detailed ahead.

Out With the Old, in With the Not-So-Old

LEICESTER, ENGLAND - NOVEMBER 01: Saido Berahino of West Brom celebrates with team mates after Esteban Cambiasso of Leicester City scored an own goal during the Barclays Premier League match between Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion at The King Pow

Hodgson hasn't chosen to flood his squad with young talent for the upcoming qualifiers, relying more or less on the same list of players available in the last round. However, Saido Berahino and Nathaniel Clyne are the latest players poised to debut for the Three Lions on Saturday.

Michael Carrick has been confirmed as an absentee for the qualifier against Slovenia and international friendly against Scotland next week, tweeting his disappointment after being ruled out:

Calum Chambers is among the new faces migrating further into Hodgson's ranks, and the versatile defender will hope his development can continue at Wembley this week.

He'll face stern competition from former Southampton team-mate Clyne, however, a player he'll once again compete against for playing time. Clyne spoke to the Saints' official website regarding his debut prospects:

"

I know a lot of the players in the team and they’ve helped me settle down, so I’m just looking forward to playing and getting in the team. It is brilliant for me to come here, play amongst the lads and be in an international side. I think I’ve settled in well. I’m ready for any game, if it is against Slovenia or Scotland. I’ll prepare myself and I’ll get ready for the game.

"

Among the new England faces is a familiar one, though, after Stewart Downing was rewarded for his fine West Ham form with a recall to the national team's ranks.

The 34-times-capped international last represented England more than two-and-a-half years ago, but after discovering a new vein of form at Upton Park, will hope to establish new prominence in the Three Lions' setup.

Wayne Rooney Addresses England Legacy

Needing just seven more international goals to replace Sir Bobby Charlton as England's all-time leading goalscorer, Wayne Rooney has clearly done his part for Queen and country since debuting at the age of 17.

However, now 29 years of age, the argument leads to just what his 43 goals have actually been worth. Yet to win a major international title, Rooney is quoted by the official matchday programme (h/t BBC Sport) for Slovenia admitting he must accomplish more if he's to eclipse Charlton's accomplishments:

"

Obviously I'm not going to be as big a legend as Sir Bobby Charlton - he's won the World Cup. To eclipse that I'd have to win the World Cup. The record has stood for so many years, there have been plenty of players who haven't been able to break it.

I'm still relatively young and believe I can do it. I could sit here saying I've got 200 caps and 100 goals for my country. But the ultimate is to win a trophy and that's what we all want to do.

"

"Relatively young" would be adding something of a positive spin on matters, as by the next time the World Cup comes around, Rooney will be 32 years of age, undoubtedly his last throw of that particular die.

However, Euro 2016 is a far more realistic task for the veteran forward, and a confident qualifying run continues with Saturday's visit of Slovenia, with England hoping to keep up their 100 percent streak.

All Eyes on Milivoje Novakovic

After falling to Estonia 1-0 in their opening fixture, Srecko Katanec's side have embarked on a more promising run of late, earning back-to-back clean-sheet victories over Switzerland and Lithuania.

PORT ELIZABETH, SOUTH AFRICA - JUNE 23: James Milner of England challenges Milivoje Novakovic of Slovenia during the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa Group C match between Slovenia and England at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on June 23, 2010 in Port Eli

In that time, they've managed to net three goals, all of which have been scored by Milivoje Novakovic, the 35-year-old veteran now playing for Shimizu S-Pulse in Japan's top flight.

The Slovenians do have a host of assets in midfield, but it seems this isn't a generation of star-quality frontmen for the nation, making Novakovic's ongoing contributions up top all the more pivotal.

On Saturday, he'll come up against a defence yet to concede a goal in their qualification run, but he should look to that as an eased burden rather than added pressure to break the deadlock.
