David Beckham's Son Brooklyn Reportedly Will Sign with Arsenal

Gianni VerschuerenNov 9, 2014

David Beckham's oldest son, Brooklyn, has spurned Manchester United and Chelsea to sign his first professional contract with Arsenal, according to reports.

The Daily Star's Sian Hewitt reports the 15-year-old signed a deal for the remainder of the 2014-15 season, with plans being made for a long-term deal if he continues his progression.

While father David became an English football legend and global icon at rival club Manchester United, the next generation of Beckhams have been part of the Arsenal youth setup for years now.

Romeo Beckham is a member of the Arsenal U13s, while Cruz Beckham plays for the U10s. The news Brooklyn will sign his first deal with the Gunners hardly comes as a surprise, although it is still significant.

Fans have been quick to point at the youngster's last name as the main reason he is being awarded with the contract, but they are sorely mistaken. Brooklyn has been tearing it up for the Gunners, and he has scouts raving about his potential. An Arsenal source expanded on the club's decision, via Hewitt:

"

Brooklyn is talented and he has stood out in all of the training sessions and games he has played.

He has had other teams sniffing around and it was always going to be a case of when, not if, he was signed up by a big-name club.

Arsenal realise he can be a huge talent.

They have seen that potential and protected their asset.

"

Being the son of one of the biggest names in the sport is an added bonus, of course, as shirt sales and global exposure should come into play at some point in the future.

It may still be a while before we see him play for the U19s or even in the Premier League (he's only 15, after all), but for now Arsenal fans can dream of having the next Beckham suit up in their colours.
