Denmark vs. Portugal: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Gianni VerschuerenOct 13, 2014

Two struggling teams will attempt to re-ignite their Euro 2016 qualifying campaigns on Tuesday, as Denmark will host Portugal in a rematch of their Euro 2012 group-stage match.

Portugal lost their opener against Albania, leading to the sacking of Paulo Bento, and in Fernando Santos' first match at the helm, the squad fell 2-1 to Euro 2016 hosts France.

Denmark haven't fared much better, needing a late goal to draw Albania after recording a close come-from-behind win over Armenia on Matchday 1. The Danes lead Group I but will have expected even more after two matches, and a visit from Portugal will have a big impact on how the rest of the qualification campaign will play out.

Preview

Perhaps "struggling" is too harsh on the Danish side. The hosts have a young, talented team who currently lead the group standings, and a trip to Albania is never easy.

The results so far have been solid, but the team's performances have not. Denmark got lucky on Saturday, with Lasse Vibe's late equaliser giving the squad perhaps more than they deserved.

Group I was always going to be about Portugal and Denmark, and with the Portuguese squad struggling early, the Danes failed to grasp the opportunity to put more distance between the two sides.

Cristiano Ronaldo left the pitch against France and was spotted holding an ice pack against his knee, as people immediately questioned his availability for Tuesday's match. Speaking to reporters, he sounded agitated when it was suggested he was involved with Bento's sacking, via AS:

"

These situations should be put to one side. I prefer to stick with the positive things about the coaches that I’ve had over my career, from the start, with Boloni, until now, with Carlo Ancelotti and Fernando Santos. I’ve always had good lessons from my coaches and I’ve learned from them. In football there are cycles and that of Paulo Bento ended in sadness for us. Over the past 11 years decisions have been made over the head coach of the national team and they are always taken by the president, never a player or group of players. The talk otherwise makes me sad, I’m disappointed.

"

Ronaldo is not the type of player opponents want to see agitated. The match against France was his first goalless outing in nine tries, per WhoScored.com, and the star forward is in the form of his life. If his knee checks out, Denmark will have their hands full on Tuesday.

Santos' 4-4-2 with Ronaldo in a free role did well against the French squad, despite the loss, and with some better luck, the new manager would have started his tenure on a winning note.

Portugal can't overlook Denmark, however. Via Danish Football News, Santos perhaps sounded a bit too confident:

The Danes have a lot of young talent at their disposal, with the likes of Christian Eriksen pulling the strings in midfield and Lasse Schone in fine club form for Ajax.

Perhaps more importantly, they'll be more than satisfied with a draw at home against Portugal. While Group I is far from a walk in the park, the hosts will like their chances head-to-head against Serbia and at home against Albania.

It will be up to Portugal to seize the initiative and fight their way from the bottom of the standings, while Denmark eye the counter-attack. With the two most talented teams of the group battling it out, this one could go either way.

Prediction: Denmark 1-1 Portugal
