Reddit User Imagines European Championship If Played by Regions
Reddit user Mel0n_Collie has come up with an interesting idea—what would a European Championship look like if played by regions instead of countries?
He considered a competition that sees eight regions—the British Isles, Scandinavia, Iberia, South-West Europe, BeNeLux, Central Europe, the Balkans and Eurasia—competing against each other.
Mel0n_Collie explained his concept like so:

"Hypothetically, what if we filtered out all of the Part-time footballers, the stars of the Latvian premiership, Scotland, and made sure the European championship only involved the best of the best, to answer this question I give you, The European Regions Cup. 8 Teams, all of Europe included, and no world class player robbed of success on an international level due to being born in a lesser footballing country (looking at you, Gareth).
"
Gareth Bale would be setting up Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo would be teaming up with Diego Costa, and Eden Hazard and Robin van Persie would be best buddies.
We can imagine certain dressing rooms might have some interesting dymanics.

It is obviously an idea that will never happen, but that doesn't mean it is not fun to think about.
Mel0n_Collie even imagined how the tournament would play out, with BeNeLux beating the Balkans in the final.
