Toure says he will be fit for the New Year's Day visit of Sunderland, insisting he was rested—not injured as claimed by Pellegrini—during the Burnley match.

Pellegrini Claims Toure Muscle Injury

Sunday, Dec. 28

Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure is suffering from a muscle injury, but it is not expected to be serious, according to Manuel Pellegrini

Stuart Brennan of the Manchester Evening News provided a statement from Manchester City manager Pellegrini discussing Toure's injury:

Toure was forced to miss to the club's match against Burnley and it was described prior to the match as a rest day.

Thankfully, it's not expected to be a damaging blow for Pellegrini's squad longterm.

Having played such a pivotal role in the club's march to silverware last season, Toure was always expected to be a key figure if City were to match or improve upon that achievement this term.

Replicating those stellar standards of last term would be a remarkable feat on the player's part, but any hopes of doing so would be disrupted by a longterm injury absence.
