Liverpool vs. Arsenal: Simulating Vital Premier League Battle Using FIFA 14

Nick AkermanFeb 7, 2014

Liverpool must overcome Arsenal if they are to remain in the Premier League title race.

A second loss to the Gunners this season would see Brendan Rodgers' team trail Arsene Wenger's division leaders by 11 pointsa seemingly insurmountable total at this stage in the campaign.

The Reds have been inconsistent in recent weeks, notching up a derby day thrashing of Everton between draws with Aston Villa and West Brom, so there's work to be done.

Enough talking. Let's go.

Liverpool vs. Arsenal: FIFA 14 Highlights

10'—Liverpool with all the early pressure. Rodgers' team are maintaining possession, looking to play fast-paced football and are keeping Arsenal chasing.

15'Luis Suarez curls a free-kick over the bar from just outside the box.

25'Raheem Sterling nips into the box and guides the ball home after some excellent work down the left by Suarez and Daniel Sturridge. Arsenal's defence left huge gaps, providing Sterling with the simplest of finishes in front of the Kop.

41'Sturridge with a decent chance! Sterling sweeps a ball toward the back post and his English colleague connects with a header. In the end, the tight angle bettered Liverpool's prolific scorer, who hits the side netting.

HALF-TIME: Liverpool 1-0 Arsenal (Sterling)

47'Arsenal start the second-half brightly and finally look to be competing in the centre.

53'The visitors camp on Liverpool's box until Santi Cazorla finds space on the left wing. The Spaniard crosses low from inside the box and watches on as the ball pings up off Mesut Ozil on the goal-line. Ozil reacts quickest and manages to prod home, despite last-ditched defending from Kolo Toure.

56'Liverpool nearly creep back into the lead. Steven Gerrard tries a potshot from distance, which initially looks weak. However, some devilish curve sees the ball clip the post, much to the home support's despair.

73'—Suarez nicks the ball away from Arsenal's defence after two lapses from the Gunners. He bursts into the box and forces an excellent save from Wojciech Szczesny, who quickly scrambles to his feet. Sturridge reacts quickest and scores with a twisting effort. Liverpool lead!

85'—The home side are now in cruise control as Arsenal's effort levels drop.

FULL-TIME: Liverpool 2-1 Arsenal (Sterling, Ozil, Sturridge)

WEST BROMWICH, ENGLAND - FEBRUARY 02: Daniel Sturridge (R) of Liverpool is congratulated by teammate Luis Suarez of Liverpool after scoring the opening goal during the Barclays Premier League match between West Bromwich Albion and Liverpool at The Hawtho

FIFA 14 predicts a huge result for Liverpool but can success be imitated on the real pitch? Skybet currently offers odds of 60/1 for the same result with Sterling as first scorer.
