Simon Mignolet had enjoyed a fantastic first year as Liverpool's No. 1 goalkeeper.

But while the Belgian shotstopper and Liverpool were vying to do what no team in the Premier League has accomplished this season—defeat Manchester City at the Ethiad—one glaring error drew the "back in my day" groans from a couple of longtime stalwarts in England.

When Mignolet couldn't hang on to a reaching shot from Alvaro Negredo, Gary Neville and Edwin van der Sar took to social media to chastise Mignolet.

Neville tweeted:

Watching GK's nowadays just gets me angry! It's not just this incident . Being coached to punch and tip over! Just catch the ball!!!!!

And van der Sar responded

Just not like the old days Gaz!!! Strange way to try and save a weak effort!!

Not on their top of the game, insecure, false believe of security "away is away"!!
