Heading into an international break, things could not have gone much worse this week for Americans playing abroad.

On the injury front, Jurgen Klinsmann confirmed this week that the injuries to Michael Bradley and John Anthony Brooks would keep them out of international duty while Fabian Johnson and Danny Williams also picked up knocks.

Alejandro Bedoya missed his game this weekend due to illness, Jermaine Jones was benched and Timmy Chandler's Nuremberg got trounced 5-0.

To make matters worse, Jozy Altidore's Sunderland lost again with Altidore still scoreless in the English Premier League campaign. Tim Howard scored an own goal against Manchester City and Jose Torres both missed a penalty and picked up a red card this week.

Read about all the details in this week's edition of Americans Abroad.

Jozy Altidore and Sunderland remain rooted to the bottom of the English Premier League table with one point from seven games. On the weekend, Altidore got the start and went the full 90, but Sunderland lost yet again, this time 2-1 to Manchester United. Altidore continues to put in a good effort up top for the Black Cats, but if he doesn't get on the scoresheet soon, he will be in serious danger of losing his starting spot.

Tim Howard and Everton let an early lead against Manchester City slip away and lost 3-1. Howard was cruelly charged for an own goal when he saved a City penalty—but the ball bounced off the post, off his back and into his net.

Geoff Cameron took up his regular place at right-back for Stoke who lost 1-0 to Fulham. Maurice Edu and Brek Shea did not make the game-day squad.

Brad Guzan and Aston Villa tied Hull 0-0.

In the continued fallout between Jermaine Jones and his manager, Jones made the squad for Schalke's 4-1 win over Augsburg, but did not play. Michael Parkhurst, as usual, did not make the game-day squad for Augsburg.

Steve Cherundolo continues to recover from knee surgery and missed Hannover's 1-1 draw with Hertha Berlin. John Anthony Brooks missed the game for Hertha as he is still recovering from a dislocated elbow.

Timmy Chandler and Nuremberg were pasted 5-0 by Hamburg with Chandler getting the start and going the distance.

Fabian Johnson did make the 18 for Hoffenheim as he continues to recover from an ankle injury suffered last week.

Bobby Wood was not in the squad for 1860 Munich's 0-0 draw with Cottbus.

Joe Gyau scored in Hoffenheim II's 2-0 win over Wormatia in Regionliga action.

Eric Lichaj took up his usual place at right-back for Nottingham Forest who beat Brighton 3-1.

Danny Williams missed out on Reading's match with a foot injury.

Mix Diskerud and Rosenborg face Steve Clark and Honefoss in a late game on Sunday.

Sacha Kljestan and Anderlecht continued their recent slide, losing 1-0 to Kortrijk. Kljestan played 72 minutes. The loss was Anderlecht's fourth in their last five games.

Alejandro Bedoya missed out on Nantes' 3-0 win over Evian due to a reported illness.

Conor O’Brien and OB beat Esbjerg 3-1 with O'Brien playing 74 minutes.

Paul Arriola came on in the 55th minute and Herculez Gomez came on in the 64th minute. Joe Corona was on the bench, but did not play.

Jose Torres had a rough week, missing his penalty in Tigres' Copa MX shootout loss midweek and then seeing red on the weekend as Tigres lost 2-1 to Toluca.

DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco both started and played the full match in Puebla's 3-1 loss to Leon.

Benji Joya did not make the roster for Santos' match against Pumas.
