Premier League Betting Tips Week 5: Goalscorers to Back This Weekend

Nick AkermanJun 1, 2018

The next round of Premier League action forces punters to consider one question: When will Daniel Sturridge stop scoring?

Liverpoolโ€™s stylish striker has netted in each of the Redsโ€™ four games this season, with every goal leading Brendan Rodgersโ€™ men to points. If you followed my betting tips last week, he was also the sole earner from three selections.

Which players should you back to score during the fifth round of Premier League fixtures? Letโ€™s investigate.

Goalscorers to Bet on This Weekend

Daniel Sturridge, Liverpool vs. Southampton

A stunning start to the season has seen Sturridge score a quartet of important goals while battling injury, as reported by Carl Markham of the Press Association via the Daily Mail. He showed Roy Hodgsonโ€™s England side exactly what they missed during the international break with another goal, this time latching on Jonjo Shelveyโ€™s poor back pass to help Liverpool gain a 2-2 draw with Swansea.

Sturridge continues to ooze confidence on the ball and will be looking to continue impressing Rodgers. This is the final Premier League game before Luis Suarez is available and gives Sturridge one last chance to impress without the Uruguayanโ€™s influence.

It makes perfect sense to bet on a striker who continues to win punters money. While his odds continue to tighten, a number of options are extremely tempting to snap up this weekend. Southampton have kept two clean sheets so far this season, but are yet to face a side with the quality of Liverpool.

Sturridge has scored in the first 10 minutes of his last two matches, ensuring the odds of doing this again at 8-1 hold great value.

Michu, Crystal Palace vs. Swansea

Another hero of Swanseaโ€™s 2-2 draw with Liverpool was Michu, who notched his first goal of the season. Now that the Spaniard has opened his account for the campaign, itโ€™s time to start backing him by stumping up some money.

While Wilfried Bony continues to settle in at The Liberty Stadium, Michu is likely to take the lead in goalscoring terms. Michael Laudrup has the expert finisher loitering in positions behind Bony and allows him to spring forward once Swansea gain possession in the oppositionโ€™s half. With odds of 6-1 for Michu to net the first goal, this kind of situation could be extremely profitable.

If you believe Michu will score during the match at any time and Swansea will leave Selhurst Park victorious, odds of 3-1 may test your resolve. For those looking to be a little cheekier, Michu is currently priced 50-1 to net a hat-trick against Ian Hollowayโ€™s men.

Olivier Giroud, Arsenal vs. Stoke City

Similar to Sturridge, Giroud has scored in every Premier League game this season and should be considered a hot property right now.

The Frenchman continues to gain confidence in an Arsenal side that thrives on free-flowing, attacking football. With Mesut Ozil taking up position behind Giroud, you can bet the 26-year-old will latch onto plenty of through balls against a Stoke City side that is best challenged along the ground.

While Mark Hughesโ€™ team have played some decent football this season, the Gunners will have no problem unlocking a heavy-footed defence at the Emirates. When this happens, Giroud is the most likely scorer.
