Week 20 MLS Power Rankings

1 of 21

On a weekend overshadowed by action in the CONCACAF Gold Cup, the powers of Major League Soccer showed their hand.

The biggest power club of them all right now is Real Salt Lake, who won easily on the road without four regular starters.

Was that win enough to keep RSL atop the B/R MLS Power Rankings for another week?

Read on to find out where they placed in this week's list.

Criteria

2 of 21

Every week, our MLS experts will rank each team from one to 19.

Each team will be given a point total for its specific ranking.

For example, the team that is ranked No. 1 is given 19 points, while the last-place team receives just one point.

We will compile the votes each week, and the team with the highest point total will be placed atop the power rankings.

13. New England Revolution

9 of 21

    Points: 27

    Last Week's Ranking: 13

14 of 21

    Points:  49

7. Los Angeles Galaxy

15 of 21

    Last Week's Ranking: T-9

Week 20 Result: Win over New England, 2-1.

Revenge is a dish best served by Adam Moffat in the case of the Houston Dynamo.

Moffat's two goals, which included a Goal of the Year candidate to open the scoring in the 49th minute, helped Houston avenge their May 18 home loss to New England.

5. Vancouver Whitecaps

17 of 21

    Points: 56

Soony Saad and Claudio Bieler scored goals in Sporting's dominant home victory over Toronto.

Saad found the back of the net for the first two times this season, while Bieler finished off a brilliant run of play with his ninth goal of the season.

Up next for the Eastern Conference leaders is a showdown on the road against Real Salt Lake on Saturday.

2. Portland Timbers

20 of 21

    Points: 70

    Last Week's Ranking: 3

Week 20 Result: Win over Los Angeles, 2-1.

Andrew Jean-Baptiste played the role of hero at Jeld-Wen Field, as he scored the match-winning goal in the 94th minute against the Galaxy.

In what was one of the most intense matches of the season, the Timbers came out of it with second place in the Western Conference standings and a chance to start a brand new unbeaten streak.

1. Real Salt Lake

21 of 21

    Points: 76

    Last Week's Ranking: 1

Week 20 Result: Win over FC Dallas, 3-0.

Real Salt Lake once again thrived without their superstars who are out on Gold Cup duty by defeating FC Dallas.
