Proud Costa Rican obsessed with soccer and football. Featured columnist for MLS.
Very proud of my Costa Rican heritage, but I did serve this great nation in the United States Navy on board the Mighty USS Mason (DDG 87)—Proudly We Serve.
I am a resident of Brooklyn, NY, but have grown to idolize the great Dan Marino. There are four loves in my life—My son, the Miami Dolphins, New York Red Bulls and Real Madrid. I have a soft spot for the Gunners, but only in the Premier League.
I am as opinionated as they come, but rely on reasonable and realistic thinking to reach my conclusions. If there is one thing I hate, it's overreacting analysts and fans. There is perspective to be had in every event and I am here to bring it to you.
New MLSE owner says he wants TFC to bring in a "Beckham type" player. A famous player. Who do you think are some realistic possibilities?
Great to hear (or read) that, Eduardo. I kinda look to your articles to help keep me updated on MLS; it's not really covered much over here in the UK, and I think it's a really interesting league.
No worries, Eduardo. I'm glad I could help out.
No problem, Eduardo. It was a great read!
Eduardo Mendez for President !!!!!
Haha wow I was looking for one of the top writers in the MLS community to ask if they could write an Article/start a discussion about how the MLS will possibly grow into a real league with Relegation/Promotion. Wasn't expecting that he'd be a fan of pretty much all the sporting rivals to the teams I support though. Hahahaha.
Any who these are my thoughts
I respect the teams from the MLS but the league as a whole needs to have more teams (we live in a gigantic and populous country) and a lower league that allows some form of promotion/relegation. Perhaps, something akin to this
(http://www.thedenimkit.com/2012/05/24/mls-promotion-and-relegation-introducing-the-alternative-un-20s-plan/ )
until 2020ish. Begin establishment of MLS2 (or purchase NASL) with it only costing 15-30 million instead of the 100million to start up a club in the lower league within that timeline stated above, Immediately release a statement stating that Promo/Rele will begin in (example) 2020/2021 season. Top MLS2 East and MLS2 West promoted each year as long as a minimum of 8 teams in that conference. With a plan like this… it is a win/win for the league… expands the borders of the leagues with next to no exposure. All “original 20″ teams from the article are protected until the MLS2 conferences have been picked up by TV networks and expanded, so even if they do get relegated post 2020 it won't be the death of their club. (Honestly though with the money some of these clubs can spend I don't see any of the "Original 20" going down)
(info courtesy of the Article and majority of the written out idea was originated by "Doug" in the comments section)
Hey, well I had been hearing about the the Red Bulls proposed a new one in Queens (or Brooklyn?), and then were undercut by the Cosmos (seeking MLS approval) because they proposed for Queens too, or Brooklyn, I honestly dont remember if its vice versa, lol.
I think a dedicated football ground anywhere within the 5 boroughs would be a great move, but realistically a multi-use stadium would be just as cool too. Id like the same for LA, but just waiting...
Keep writing, you're one of the better writers!
So you're in Brooklyn but your home team is the Red Bulls about 2 hours away? LOL, just kidding man props for writing.
It does feel weird having to use the term soccer, but oh well. Us soccer fans don't mind. That's what it's called in the U.S. Just like Football is known as futbol americano outside the U.S. For me, it's weird saying NILL or NULL in soccer. I just say the score is 'two zero' (2-0).
I don't know about you, but there's nothing like listening to a soccer broadcast in Spanish. The passion and energy just isn't matched on Fox Soccer or English broadcasts.
Any who, just read a couple of your soccer stories. Pretty good man. Stay in touch! Twitter is @alejandropena
In any case, it was really well-written! And there goes my dream of coaching. (Even if I did only have the dream for a few hours.)
