Barca Youngsters Who'll Earn More Playing Time as Season Wears On

The old seem to be passing the baton to the new generation at FC Barcelona. The passing of the guard includes a new generation of players ready to step in after Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique leave.

The following slideshow talks about the new generation of Barca players. These may be the ones with more playing time as the current season continues.

Martin Montoya

1 of 7

According to Francesc Tomas of ESPN-FC, Martin Montoya may be a replacement for Dani Alves. Tomas praised Montoya's attitude towards Barca.

He also wrote about how Montoya was able to achieve a balance between defending and attacking. According to the FC Barcelona website, Montoya started at La Masia academy before rising in the club.

Montoya participated as a substitute for Alves in the last four matches of the 2011-12 season. He debuted with Barca in the 2012-13 season and is a great winger.

Marc Bartra

Marc Bartra is another young player who started in La Masia academy from RCD Espanyol. Bartra debuted with FC Barcelona in the 2012-13 season.

The FC Barcelona website praised the defensive abilities of Bartra. The website made comparisons between Bartra and Gerard Pique.

Francesc Tomas of ESPN-FC praised Bartra's participation in the UEFA Champions League against Celtic FC. Matthew Harold of Goal disagreed and wrote about Bartra's lack of defensive experience.

Bartra is starting as a defender and Barca manager Tito Vilanova may use him as the season progresses. This may help Bartra mature as a defender for the club.

Marc Muniesa

Marc Muniesa is praised as a defender with a great work ethic by the FC Barcelona website. The same website wrote about Muniesa's ability in the center and left of the back field.

The only weakness for Muniesa is a history of knee injury. Last summer, Muniesa tore the anterior cruciate ligament of his left knee.

Muniesa had an almost similar experience in 2009 with his left knee. In spite of this, I agree with fellow B/R writer Xoel Cardenas about Muniesa and Bartra in La Blaugrana.

Cristian Tello

Cristian Tello recently renewed his contract with FC Barcelona until 2016. Tello rose to prominence during the UEFA Champions League match between Barca and Bayer Leverkusen on March 7, 2012.

Tello scored two goals, which added to Messi's five-goal performance. The result was an overwhelming victory for La Blaugrana.

Tello also scored a last-minute goal for La Blaugrana against Real Valladolid last December.

The result was a resounding victory for Barca.

Jonathan Dos Santos

Jonathan dos Santos is a Mexican midfielder for FC Barcelona. He is the brother of Giovani Dos Santos, who once played for the Tottenham Hotspur.

The Barca website commented about his increasing presence in the field during 2011-12. We will be expecting more of Dos Santos as 2012-13 progresses.

Isaac Cuenca

Isaac Cuenca is another member of the new generation of Barca players. He debuted with La Blaugrana as a substitute for David Villa during a UEFA Champions League match.

The match was between FC Barcelona and Viktoria Plzen on October 20, 2011. La Blaugrana praises his ability to expand in the field and score.

Sergi Roberto

Sergi Roberto is one of the midfielders from Barcelona B being used by Tito Vilanova. Roberto received his start with Barca during the scoreless UEFA Champions League match against Benfica on December 5, 2012.

Roberto is just beginning with La Blaugrana.

My thanks to the readers of B/R for their time with this slideshow. My best wishes to you now and always.
