Arsenal Transfer News: Alex Song Sits Out Season Opener with Barca Move Looming
Alex Song sat out Arsenal’s Premier League opener against Sunderland amidst rumors that the midfielder is bound for Barcelona in the next few days.
TalkSport reported on Saturday that Song will be leaving the Emirates in a £17 million move to Barcelona after sitting out the opening matchup against Sunderland. He’ll allegedly fly to Barcelona on Sunday to have a physical done prior to the completion of the deal.
Song, 24, has been the newest Arsenal player rumored to be on the move this summer. The Cameroonian midfielder's play over the last four years has been the most consistent for Arsenal.

As of Friday, August 18, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was noncommittal about any move that may or may not be in the works concerning Song, according to The Independent:
"This decision (on Song) is not made. No (bid has been made). I cannot tell you more. ... Midfield is a different area because we have nine or 10 midfielders of top-class quality.
"
While Wenger says one thing, he’s often known to be doing something else behind the scenes to keep the scent off his tracks.
After the sale of Robin van Persie and now the move of Song, the Gunners have taken a step back in their bid to finish atop the Premier League this season.
Wenger didn’t confirm or rule out bringing in more players or moving more before all is said and done.
"Both can happen," he said.
